I have just discovered my Pamplin Great-great-great grandmother, who was Judith Pamplin, born in 1795 in Virginia. She married Edmund Tiller Lively in about 1817 in Virginia. Any help in tracing her ancestors would be much appreciated.

I'm looking for the family of Mary Pamplin in the vicinity of Nelson County VA. She shows up married to Edward McFaddin and their girls are all born in the 1840s in Nelson County. She must died sometimes before 1857 as Edward shows up in Rockbridge County VA and remarries, and in the following decade his grown girls all get married there also. If anyone has any info please post, thanks.

Mary Pamplin married Edward McFadden on 14 Sept., 1837 in Nelson Co., VA. She is the dau. of John Pamplin & Margaret (Peggy) Wood who married 29 July 1806 in Amherst Co., VA. John Pamplin is the son of James Pamplin, Sr. & Rachel Hunt.

I only had one child for Edward & Mary, that being Edward Park McFadden being born on 2 Feb. 1850 in Nelson Co. who married Emma Delilah Bugg on 14 Oct. 1871 in Fluvanna Co., VA. Any info on Edward & Mary's other children (daughters) would be appreciated.

Here's how I got back to this point.

I was doing research in Rockbridge County VA on my grandmother Mary Frances McFaddin. Her father was John McClung McFaddin. He was the child of the second marriage of Edward McFaddin and Sarah Clifton. When I found the marriage of Edward and Sarah, Edward had to name his parents and place/date of birth.

on Page 258 of the Rockbridge County Marriage Book

"3 November 1857 Edward McFaddin, 45, W, b/Buckingham VA, lv/Rockbridge, Overseer, son of Wm and Judith McFaddin, married Elizabeth Clifton, 30, W, b/Rockbridge, lv/Rockbridge, daughter of John and Rebecca Clifton, Will. F. Junkin officiating"

I was able to find Edward on the Rockbridge census for 1860 & 1880. In 1880 it is just he, Elizabeth and John, who was their child, born 1864.

In the 1850 census he is listed in Nelson county age 37, Mary age 36, Martha 9 and Sarah 6. In the 1860 Census he is in Rockbridge married to Elizabeth age 30, Martha 18, Sarah 16 William Henry C age 16 and E(dmund Perry (Parks?) age 8.

The Rockbridge County marriages say that

28 Aug 1860 John Gilbert, 23 S, b/Rockbridge, Shoemaker, son of Leroy Gilbert & mary Gilbert, married Martha Jane McFaddin, 19, S, b/Nelson Co, daughter of Edward McFaddin and Mary McFaddin, Wm. F. Junkin officiating."

"28 July 1859 Ezekiel H. Gilbert, 22, S, B/Amherst Co. Shoemaker, son of Ezekiel Gilbert & Pensy Bilbert, married Sarah S. McFaddin, 15 S, b/Nelson Co, daughter of Edward McFaddin & Mary McFaddin, W. F. Junkin officiating."

For whatever reason, Sarah is back living at home with her family at a 16 year old 12 months after her marriage. The census was done in June so Martha wasn't married at the time of the census.

Hope this helps.

I would very much like it if you could tell me how you know that Mary Pamplin connects with her parents and grandparents. Books, will, land records?????

I also wanted to see if any information about the Pamplins might give me more information about the McFaddins. I have Edward naming his father as William and mother as Judith. Later, in 1848, perhaps the same William (or perhaps a son named William) says his wife was daughter of a Daniel Carter, deceased.

Any other Carters or McFaddins intermingled with Pamplins?

I don't have any info on the parents of Edward McFadden who married Mary Pamplin. I know that their marriage of 14 Sept., 1837 was recorded on page 36 of the book: "Nelson Co. VA. Marriages 1808 to 1878."

Relative to Mary's Pamplin ancestry, my dad published a book in 1984 detailing all of the Pamplin ancestors whom he had been able to connect after 20+ years of research. A second edition was published in 1986. Most of his sources were not documented specifically in the book. However, I worked with him for about 10 years during which we researched census records, land deeds, wills, marriage records etc. in every VA & TN courthouse where we found Pamplin records. This was after we spent several days @ the VA St. Archives in Richmond in the mid-70's.

Some of his data was merely from family descendants. But I've found that 98%+ of the info that he published in his books is acurate. If there was conflicting or questionable info, then he stated so in the books.

Also, his books were indexed with all Surnames. I find no other Pamplin / McFadden connection in VA.

I'll be glad to help in any way needed. But I have very little additional info on the VA McFaddens.

Yes, it is a never ending quest for info - isn't it! Sorry that I couldn't help more with your McFadden ancestry.
