Hello,

Surname Gousie is my Great Grandmothers name Marie Bertha Yvonne Todd (Gousie) I have found many dead ends to this last name. Have you found out anything about this name? I of course know she was born in Rhode Island in 1905 and father was Joseph Gousie also born in Rhode Island.

ANYTHING woud be helpful...

I don't know of any specifics on Joseph Gousie around that time period but I do have my Gousie (or Gouzy before coming to the United States) relatives traced back to the 1700's coming to French Canada from Carcassonne, France. Let me know if you'd like the names and dates from that line.

The name Gousie goes back many generations to Carcassonne, France. The name Gousie was written many different ways as the family migrated both from France and Canada for the pronunciation. I do not have a copy at this time but there is an extensive family tree that goes back hundreds of years tracing the roots back to France that was done by one of my uncles. I do know that my great grandparents moved from Canada to Rehoboth, Massachusetts where they owned and worked a farm back in the early 1900s. Both my great grandfather and great grandmother came from families with lots of children (both had siblings above 10). I know this is only a short note but I would love to try and help connect the dots if you will to our family history. Feel free to contact me.

Did any in your family go to Louisiana in the 1840's? We have a Jean Pierre Gouzy from France married to Henreitte Cortant who arrived in New Orleans about 1843.

Well, I wish I knew. I cannot verify the line back that far but I do believe that they came from France to Canada into the U.S. and down to R.I. then back west. I did write The American-French Genealogical Society and I am waiting for a response. I will keep all information and let you know if there is a link.

Thank you,

Madeline
