I have a birth certificate from 1910 and for nativity it shows
Hrede, Kotar: Horovic u Ceskoj

I finally found out the "u Ceskoj" means in Czech Republic

Can anyone help me with this! Thank you!

I'm just trying to learn about searching Czech archives myself, but I tried the following:

Using the Gazetteer at: http://genteam.at/
(You have to register to search but it is free)

I searched for a location that includes "horovic" I got about 6 results, two of which could be locations for that record:

No., Other Location Name, Location Name, Parish , Crown Land
3681, Horschowitz, Horovice, Horovice, Böhmen
3682, Deutsch Horowitz, Horovicky, Dekov, Böhmen

(Böhmen = Bohemia in German)

Details for Horovice:
No.: 3681
Former Location Name: Horschowitz
Location name: Horovice
Parish: Horovice
Begin of Vital Statistics: 1649/1649/1670
Former Parish:
Former Judicial Denomination (Bohemia/Moravia and South Tirol only): Horovice
Crown Land: Böhmen
Respective Archives: Prag (Praha)

Details for Deutsch Horovice:
No.: 3682
Former Location Name: Deutsch Horowitz
Location name: Horovicky
Parish: Dekov
Begin of Vital Statistics: 1731/1784/1784
Former Parish:
Former Judicial Denomination (Bohemia/Moravia and South Tirol only): Podborany
Crown Land: Böhmen
Respective Archives: Prag (Praha)

I went over to Actapublica and searched for Hořovice in the Prague Archives:

http://actapublica.eu/matriky/praha/?akce=hledat&ac_me=H...=

I haven't been successful working with finding records on Actapublica myself yet - still working on understanding the German and Czech that might help me. Hope something in those records helps you!

The village of Hr'edle (with a "hac'ik" = small "v" over the "r") is 5 miles north of the town of Hor'ovice, which is about 30 miles southwest of Prague. Your "kotar" is probably the word for district or township.

Are you researching the same surnames as in 2007?

We might be able to help much better if you would attach a scan of the document for all of us to see.

word kotar in Croatian would mean district in English

mapy.cz is a good map locator. It is in Czech language, but you can either translate the page with google translate (copy & paste the URL) or just type the name in the box and hit enter. It allows you to zoom in as well as see the lay out of the village and view cllose in.

Hi Karyn
I mean your Hrede will be Hr'edle village and your Kotar can be Koc'vary village.
Both this places are near to Hor'ovice town southwest of Praha. Parish registers are in archives in Praha.
All the best. Tony.
