Surnames: Hilliard, Mobbs
I am researching Hilliards from Killarney from the 1890s back. I have the following:
1 - George Franklin Hilliard (1895-1988), Seaman, who immigrated to Australia in about 1918 - siblings were Richard (1893- ), Ellen (1894- , married Alf Waugh), Charles Louis Robert (1899 - ), and William (1900 - who was sent to America to live with relatives after his father died, and had a son called Jack, still living), George married Francis May Lack in Sydney; George was a son of
2 - George Franklin Hilliard (1859-1905), Surgeon and physician, born Killarney, died London, married Nellie Mobbs, this George was a son of
3 - Richard Hilliard, occupation, age, and spouse unknown.

From there I have nothing. Does anyone have any more information on Hilliards from Killarney, County Kerry?

I have a 10 page letter written by an elderly Killarney Hilliard to my father giving many details of his family. I believe his name was Dick and the letter was written before 1956. His father was John. John's father was William, Willaim's father was William and his father was Robert William, his father was William and his father was Captain Robert (came to Ireland in 1649 and married in 1651).

I am not skilled in matters forefatherish but I will be glad to send you a copy of the letter. It is an interesting history of the family in Ireland and the author shows himsef to be a scholar and an excellant writer. Captain Hilliard's family was from the Holderness Peninsula in Yorkshire.

Hello

I'm am trying to tie the Hilliard family of Killarney to the Hilliard Linage in Kerry beginning in 1649. I been speaking to Dick's son, but his father must have known more, would it be possible to get a copy of that letter and i could share with you some stuff i may have.

Hi Anneke and others researching Irish/Australian Hilliards

I am seeking information on the Hilliard family of Ballydunlea in the county of Kerry. The Griffiths Valuation (1847 to 1864) shows male occupants of Ballydunlea as George Hilliard, John Hilliard, Henry Hilliard, William Hilliard, and John Hilliard jr.  John Hilliard (snr) appears to be the head of the household and was married to Elizabeth Creagh on 15th April 1845.

I have located records that link George Hilliard in the Griffiths valuations to George Hilliard of Sydney Australia (second son of John Hilliard Listrim (Ballydunlea) married to Mary Margaret Colson Knight on 4th January 1898.  I have further information from the will of Jane Hilliard, resident of the suburb of Richmond, Melbourne, Australia that the forenamed George Hilliard of Sydney was her brother and executor of her will and that there were two other Hilliard sisters, Catherine and Mary Ellen also resident in Australia and New Zealand (named as beneficiaries in the will of Jane Hilliard).

I have been unable to locate birth or baptism records for the children of John Hilliard and Elizabeth (Creagh) Hilliard who appear to have been the leaseholders of Ballydunlea Townlands. I am particularly interested to find records of the Henry Hilliard who is named in Griffiths Valuation as resident at this address as he may have been a son of John and Elizabeth and if he emigrated to Australia with his siblings George, Jane, Catherine and Mary Ellen, he could be my great great grandfather who was a Pearling Master in Broome in the late 1800s.  Henry Hilliard's marriage certificate shows his father's name as John and his place of birth as Kerry (Ireland)

I have been unsuccessful in locating shipping lists that show any of the above named Hilliard's arrival in Australia and was hoping that some news of the family may have been reported in Kerry periodicals around the time of their emigration.

I am happy to share information and copies of source documents and news clippings that I have on various Hilliards in Australia.

with thanks
