Smolky Surname

Surnames: Smolky, Guzowski, Skotarczak, Czarnecka
My grandfather's surname was Smolky, since all my relatives are deceased I need help with the surname. In doing research I have found several references to Smolky surname. I am wondering in what area of Poland they would have come from. All I can remember is that my mother told me it was a small town close to Lithuania. He immigrated into USA in 1882, of course, that would be Castle Garden records. I found his first paper for Naturalization but all it says Empire of Prussia. Any direction would be helpful. Thank you.

If you are willing to provide your grandfather's complete name I will take a look for him in immigration indexes.

Hi metaphor, Discussion going on in other forums, a bit murky. Seems the grandfather's name may be Charles. Lived first in Ohio and then in Detroit. The immigration record is key and I don't think anyone has found it.

This was posted:
Charles SMOLKY age 23 Origin: Austria, Departed: Hamburg Arrived New York 23 Dec 1882 Dec Date: 2 Nov 1886

At least gives a date of arrival.

Not sure this is the right family:

Detroit, Wayne, Michigan
Charles Smolky 50
Marie 38
Leo 17
Julia 15
John 13
Anna 12
Steve 9

I thought the wife's name Veronica was mentioned in the other forum, so...?
