Stephan and Petronella Dobrovic

I have been unable to find much information on ancestry for my great grandparents, including in any census records after they imigrated to the USA. They owned a farm outside St. Charles, MI.

All I've found on Stephan is a 1922 ships record implying he was born in 1887 in Krivjany, Czechoslovakia and his mother's name was Anna.

I think I found two ships records for Petronella saying she was also born in 1187 except in Hungary (Havran or Karpana perhaps - different name on each record). I have no idea what her maiden name was.

Most of the family on this side has passed and have little idea how to proceed. Any suggestions?

Up to 1918 it was A-H
http://users.erols.com/mwhite28/austhung.htm where 12 different languages were spoken. After the fall of A-H empire several new countries were formed and one was Czechoslovakia, which in 1993 separated into Czech Republic and Slovak Republic. Your research will be in Slovak Republic being that is where the village Krivany is.

Possible the shipping clerk made a mistake in transcribing the location. In any case Ilona, Maria and the mother were naturalized citizen so you can request their naturalization intent & petition to confirm their place of birth.

You can also go thru Roman Catholic church records of Krivany and find the ancestral information, if that was the religion of your ancestor.
