Would like any info on the Owens families of Onslow Co. I have about 30 to 40 people listed in my files from Onslow Co. Two married into the Winberry (Winbury) family, I think they are mainly from the Swansboro, Stella area. Particularly interested in a Mary Owens listed in the 1870 census age 40 and John Owens listed in the 1870 census age14 they are listed with the James Barnes family.

Cheryl,

James Barnes was an ancestor of mine, and I have been doing a lot of research on the various branches of my family in Onlsow County. This includes Barnes, Coston, Smith, Kellum, Winberry, and many others, along with the Owens. They all lived beside one another throughout the 1800's, and in some cacses back into the 1700's.

Would love to share info with you. I don't think that I have anything useful though on these two Owens you mentioned who were living with James Barnes.

Tim

Looking for anyone that is related to Samuel C. & Sarah C. Simpson. My grandfather James Osborn Owens was adopted by them when he was 14 years old. They lived in Swansboro, NC. My grandfather married Katie Cambell from Hubert. I am related to these families: Aman, Turner, Owens, Hurst, Winberry, Dexter

Any clue who his birth parent were? I researching A John Owens who seems to have lived with other families - in 1870 census lived in Swansboro with the Morton's from memory. There were two John Owens in Swansboro with DOB very close. One was John S. Owens, Mine is John Enos Owens DOB abt 1856.

Will be out of town this week, but will look into your James when I get back.

Thanks

No clue on parents. No one seems to know where he came from. He had a brother, that we think was adopted by another family. An aunt on my mother's side of the family said he would never talk of his past. He was married twice. His second wife (my grandmother) was Katie Cambell from Hubert. I only know of one brother, but there may be more for all I know. Thanks Jeanette
