I am interested in finding any more information about my father's side of the family, or knowing if there is anyone related to him. I have already posted before. I also have three sisters that I haven't seen for many years, who share the same father as mine. They are Patricia, Barbara Ann, and Lynn ( maiden name: Gaskins). My father, Elmon Gaskins,(b.1929, d. 1991) was the son of Harris Gaskins, Jr. and Sarah Royals. Harris is the grandson of John Gaskins, b.1802. There is a John Gaskins cemetery in Nashville, Berrien county,Ga., at the Riverside Baptist church. John Gaskins has a family plot there. All the Gaskins in my family are buried there, including my father's sister, Velma Gaskins (married Robert Croley). I was told that there was a Gaskins family reunion there about three years ago. Any information you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sure hope you find your line. I too would like to connect out side of Florida. No luck as yet. I am trying to conncet from Lewis (Louis) Gaskin married to Sarah Holder in north Florida near what is now Tallahassee. There is a Fisher Gaskin decended from John (I think) but filtered down from Telfair GA into N. Florida. If you can connect to that, would you let me know? We are talking 1800 to 1850. Faye

To Faye,Fisher, yes..

Faye,
Fisher is my great-granduncle, the brother of my great-grandfather, Harris Gaskins, Sr.. You were right in your previous messages about John. He had many children, although I don't know if he had a brother named "Jack". Anyhow, John had many children, although I am not sure of all their names. His wife was Pollie Barrow. Fisher J. Gaskins was born 2/16/1828 in Lowndes, now Berrien County, GA. He married an Elizabeth Sirmans, daughter of Abner and Betty Kirkland Sirmans. Fisher served in the 50th Georgia Infantry (Co. "I")--he enlisted in March 1862. Fisher and Elizabeth also had many children: Benjamin, Mary Ann, Harris, Elizabeth, Martha, Lemuel, John B. Irwin and Fisher. Both Fisher and his wife are buried in Riverside Baptist Church Cemetery in Nashville, Georgia. Hope this helps/ rings a bell for you.

Randy,

Fisher Gaskins was my GGGgrandfather, born 1780. He is listed in the Huxford Volumes as being the son of Thomas Gaskins, but this is not true apparently. He was the son of Joseph Gaskins and Zipporah Squires (poss. adopted, but this has never been proven) in Northampton County, VA. He later moved to Berrien county, GA. He had two marriages, Rhoda Rowe, my GGGgrandmother, and Mary (Lacy?). He had two, maybe three sons with Rhoda Rowe--I know there was a John, b:1802, d:1865 and a Thomas Gaskins. John was my GGgrandfather, who lived in Bannochburn, GA, near Nashville, Berrien county. Fisher later moved to Florida in search of cattle lands. He died there and was apparently buried in the Old Newnansville cemetery, but no one can find his grave. Yes, I would like to share info.

This does sound very familiar. A lot of Gaskins info is at Wayne Gaskins site, "The Gaskins Genealogy Homepage" . Try visiting the surnames section and on the homepage see if names match up. It will have Fisher Gaskins there, his children (date of birth/death), and possibly their spouses. Let me know what you find. The address is :

Wayne is very nice and helpful, too. He has helped me out a great deal.
