Have been researching James Marcum/Markham from Jefferson County, Illinois.
He was a Union Civil War veteran from Company H, 32 Regiment Illinois Infantry who enrolled from Jefferson County, IL.
Born 1845 Died 1927. Married Chloe Matilda Holliday in 1865 in Jefferson County, IL.
Buried in Wayne County, IL at Johnsonville Cemetry. Does this help?

Hi Doug, I have seen James Marcum's marriage license on the Illinois listing and I have always felt he was related some way. I have a great grandfather named Bird Marcum who married Sarah Jane Bond in 1843 but their James was too young to be this man. However, I believe that James may be a brother to Samuel Marcrum who married Sarah Marcum who was Bird's daughter. I know they were in Kentucky in 1835 and I believe they came from around Vandalia in Fayette County, Illinois but I have not been able to prove it yet. If Bird, Pleasant or Armstead are familiar names to you or Samuel I'd really love to hear more from you. I am Kay Markham of Fenton, Missouri and still looking for proof of Bird's parents. Kay
