Where is Okrouhli?

Where is Okrouhli?

Posted: 18 Dec 2012 3:41PM GMT
Classification: Query
Surnames: Bartoneck, Bartunek, Bartonek
I believe I have located my gggrandparents on a passenger list. Joseph and Anna Bartoneck (Bartunek, our spelling)were passengers on the Bark Capella sailing from Bremen to Baltimore in 1867. There were a large number of passengers (including Joseph and Anna) from what is listed as Okrouhli, Bohemia.

I can not locate Okrouhli, but have found an Okrouhla or an Okrouhlice.

I am hoping someone who has done more research might be able to help me figure out what town the folks from this ship might actually have lived. Any ideas?

Hello,
Different variants of this name of village there are several in Bohemia. Exactly Okrouhlé (alternative old name Okrouhlí) is part of the village Svatojanský Újezd, the district Jičín. Parish is in Lázně Bělohrad. But that's not it.
But almost at 99%, I would say that it can be Okrouhlá near town Milevsko. From nearby village Opařany were Bartůněk family as well and from Okrouhlá also family Boreš, what emigrated to the United States in the 19th century too. It is a village situated 4 km south of Milevsko, the district Pisek, South Bohemian Region.
Finally, after quite a long search for the right village, I found in the parish registers, as follows:

You can further research your family on-line on http://digi.ceskearchivy.cz/DA?lang=en

Bartunek family went to Cleveland, lived in Cuyahoga, Ohio - is that right? And you know that it is possible to find at www.mundia.com a family pedigree of Bartunek - added by “mgbergstr” nickname?

Peg,

Sorry I can't help but if you don't have any response here, you may want to post on
http://forums.delphiforums.com/iarelative

It has members that are very helpful in Bohemia research.
I was quite surprised to see a ship manifest from that time actually listing specific villages/towns of origin, and in clear handwriting, too. I looked at the other manifest pages of the Capella but didn't see any other "Okrouhli", Bohemia listings. Sometimes a different spelling can be found that clarifies such a mystery, but not in this instance.

Good hunting,

TOM

EDIT/UPDATE: LOL, had I waited just a few minutes, my reply would not have been necessary! "labald" presented quite a thorough reply while I was typing.

Thank you so much for your reply. I appreciate all the work you put into this reply. I just figured out that this is not my gggrandfather.

I am embarrassed to say that I got my Anna's and Maria's mixed up. (My gggrandmother Bartunek was Maria and not Anna. Anna was married to a Vodraska).

Both families ended up in Kansas, but as I understand both spent time in Cleveland prior to settling in Ellsworth County, Kansas.

Thanks again!
Peggy
