Irish family Devine moving to Liverpool

I have traced my family to Patrick Devine born 1847 - 1850 in the West of Ireland. He was living in Liverpool 1865 and gave his father's name as Matthew Devon a soldier. I cannot find any trace of Matthew, or any trace of Patrick in any census records prior to 1871. Patrick also spelt his name Devat and Devitt on his children's baptisms. My own Grandfather said his Grandfather told him he came from Ireland as a young child and his father was a Connaught Ranger. Can anyone check the Irish passenger lists for a family consisting of a Matthew and Patrick Devine or similar to Devat moving to Liverpool. Particularly any with Matthew as a soldier?

Ireland was part of the UK at this time - so no passenger lists or Immigration records were kept.
