Bressan, CZ

Has anyone ever heard of a village of Bressan in 1800's? Any idea if the name is correctly recorded? It is for a Josef Posta on a New York passenger list arriving September 05, 1899.
thanks,
Audrey

My first guess would be Br'est'any, my second, Br'ez'any. Both are villages in central Bohemia/

Audrey,

If by "recorded" you mean hand-written on the passenger manifest, you're going to need some luck/expert eyes/expert search (did I mention luck). Since you even mention Bressan, I'm guessing you have not looked at the actual manifest:

http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup_weif_5a.asp?src=%2Fc...

The first 1 or 2 letters is so fancified...hope some guys have been gone from this world long enough that they aren't offended by my cursing their handwriting.

TOM

EDITED to correct "Bressan" spelling so as to not further complicate the question.

On EI site the location was transcribed differently than on Ancestry.
Posta, Josef Nesson 35 1864 1899

Any other US documents on this ancestor? No other family followed him to America?

I totally agree with you. I went into Ellis Island passenger lists and they interpret it to be Nesson. So who knows.

Posta, Marie Branov, Bohemia 26 1879 1905
Posta, Emil Branov, Bohemia 26 1879 1905
Could these 2 be related to your ancestor?

The location Branov is not far from the location Zlecno.
