I have a James Calvin Hutchison, born 1843, Hickman Co. He was son of Edward and Polly Hitchison. James married Nancy Arnold, daughter of Edwin (Nid) Arnold and Mary Arnold. All are Hickman Co. lines. My great grandmother, Martha Alice Hutchison, daughter of James and Nancy, married Andrew Jackson Dunn in 1885 in Hickman Co., TN. Marriage certificate has Hutchison, but my grandfather said all of the family used the name King. Census records are Hutchison.

By the 1850 Hickman census the Hutchison family was involved with the Lewis family. I am a Lewis descendant, and need information on that family. Anything on the Lewis / Hutchison connection would be useful.

Dear Marlin,

I am interested in your knowledge about Orlean Hutchinson.
I know that our ancestor Samuel L. M. Lewis (b. 1845) married a Hutcinson ca. 1867 and had four children. She died prior to the 1880 Census, Hickman Co., which enumerates Samuel, the four children, and J. Hutchinson, aged 60, mother-in-law. One source indicates that Samuel's wife's name was Leza Hutchinson. Does any of this connect with you? Please let me know.

Stan and Marlin, I am excited to see someone working with Hutchinson, and someone connected to the Lewis family. I am a Lewis descendant trying to get a handle on that family. Samuel Lewis was the son of William Lewis (if I am correct) and William had a brother Thomas. Thomas is my line. Thomas' family is also connected to Huteherson. I would love to exchange any information I can give or receive.

I am interested in Amos Hutcheson b:1849 Hickman Co. to John Hutcheson b: 1820 and Elizabeth ? 1850 Census has family together with 6 ch. A couple doors down we have Judith Hutcheson with William Ratliff family. What connection is this? In the 1870 Census they are now using the name King. Does anyone know why? HELP anybody out there.

Jackson Hutcheson married Judith Cantrell born 1820, her Sister Elizabeth Cantrell married John Hutcheson. Amos (Boy) Hutcheson son of John and Elizabeth married Martha Ratliff and 2nd Janey Cates. Jackson Hutcheson was killed by Shelt Rodgers in the late 1860's. See Spence's History of Hickman Co. The Hutcheson changed their name to King. Also they liked to spell Hutcheson several different ways. Hutcheson is the first spelling I ran across, so that is what I use. Hutcheson, King, Arnold, Plunkett, Ratliff, Cantrell, Vineyard, and more all lived 1st district in Haley's Creek/Grays Bend area. All intermarried and its a 20000 piece puzzel with a lot of pieces missing.

Judith and Elizabeth were sisters. Were Jackson and John brothers?

I think they were, have no proof. Jackson could have been John's father, and John from a previous marriage. Its not unlikely that father and son married sisters, there was no blood relation involved.
