Hi! My name is Debra Fankhauser. I have always been told that three Fankhauser brothers came to America from Switzerland. My grandfather was Peter Fankhauser from Humboldt Nebraska. I am not sure of the name of my great grandfather. Any suggestions on how to find out more? My Dad's name was Harold Fankhauser from Humboldt Nebraska. His brothers Ellsworth, Slyvan, Leo, and a sister Beaulah.

My Grandfather by blood was Edward Lewis Fankhauser, his brother was Earl Fankhauser of Colorado Springs. Edward married Peggy Jaynes and had one son, Raymond Lewis Fankhauser, now called Raymond Lewis Stroup Sr, my father. Uncle Earl has traced our lineage back to Switzerland, where there is a Fankhauser Castle. From the story that we've uncovered it is a Romeo and Juliet style story that brought the brothers here originally. If you are looking for more in depth information I would suggest correspondance with Earl Fankhauser in Colorado Springs. He has also been a great influence on the geneology of the Fankhauser's in america, and would be able to help you get hold of the extensive book published on our family history. It is a great story as to how we got here, and will help you learn what you would like to know about the rest of us here too.

The three Fankhauser brothers originally settled im Monroe County, Ohio just above Clarington. The road is called German Ridge. At least one of them is buried in a little church yard there. One moved to Kansas and the other to northern Ohio as I understand it.

Would you know if there might have been an Earnest Fankhauser who married a Freda Schenk in either Stark or Tuscarawas County Ohio?

I was killing time at work and I came across your message. I remember visiting my father's Uncle Ernie in Ohio when I was 5 or 6 years old. I wonder if this is the same Ernest you are asking about? I will have to ask my father about his Uncle Ernie, who passed away many years ago. I don't remember his wife's name though.
