I am looking for the parents of James Mcclung also and any information about his sons who first came to Lancaster County, PA (In particular, Charles). His grandson, Charles came to Butler, PA as a small child. I am part of that line from Butler. I don't have the documents on all of this yet. What do you have that would be proof of residence of James and sons? Can you share anything. donna

I too am a descendent of this Charles McClung. This past summer I did considerable research on this line, but I have to redo it, unfortunately. I lost a lot of the newer stuff to an unfortunate incident. Nevertheless, which line is yours?

My great grandmother was Martha Ann McCLUNG who married William Miller WICK. Their son Charles Marshall WICK is my grandfather. I would be pleased to collaborate.

Hi Charlene, Well, we must carry some of the same genes because of James Mcclung. Please feel free to e-mail me at mcclungd@qosi.net I am getting very interested in this line. I am not a researcher yet but I think I have a few links through knowing some of my ancestors names on my father's side. Judith Mcclung filled me in on some of the PA Mcclung line. Since then, there has been satisfaction to know where the Mcclungs settled first (Lancaster, PA) and that James had Charles and Charles had Charles who lost his mother early. Someone took him to Butler, PA about age 6, my birthplace.

Donna,

I just started looking into the McClung line this week. My husband, also from Butler, is descended from the Charles that was brought there as a child.

Do you have information to share about this Charles? Do you know his stepfather's name, or anything else?

I believe my GGG-Grandfather Josiah whose parents are James and Jemima McClung is the brother of your Charles McClung. Do you have any info on James and Jemima and where they came from?

Thanks,
Jeannie

Josiah McClung first married Mary Fletcher in Monroe County, GA on 23 Aug 1825.
He later married Margaret Elizabeth Rister.

Mary Fletcher is the sister of my GGG-Grandfather, Thomas Fletcher Sr.
Margaret Elizabeth Rister is the sister of my GGG-Grandmother, Martha Jane (Rister) Fletcher.
Josiah is not far from Thomas and Martha in the 1860 census of Milam County, Texas.
Thomas Sr., my GGG-grandfather, was born 13 Jan 1812 in South Carolina; married Martha 25 Dec 1835 in Troup County, GA; had resident census hits in 1840 in Chambers Co, AL; 1850 in Ouachita Co, AR; Milam Co, TX in 1860 and 1870. He died 30 May 1879 in Milam County, and is buried in the New Salem Cemetery outside of Rockdale, TX.

I think there is definitely a lot we can learn from the Fletcher/McClung lines crossing.

The Charles McClung that ya'll are discussing IS the brother of my GGG Grandfather Josiah.. I have in my posession a copy of a letter written by Mahala, Charles & Josiah's Sister.. This letter is Post marked Mt. Moriah Ark.. It is written to their sister Mary that is still back in Ga..

Mahala speaks of their mother Jemima passing over.. I will have to find the letter because it states when the letter was written.. Early 1850's I think..

At this point, and I don't have the letter in front of me and am going off memory, Charles & I believe his wife name was mentioned as Margaret are still in Ga., but are coming to Ark.. Mahala states that Josiah and his Brother-In-Law, James Henry Lee Wesley have all ready gone to Texas.. I have the exact date in a pension application where Josiah's daughter Amy applied for a Confederate Pension for her husband John Watson Allen.. In the application it ask her how long had she been a resident of the State Of Texas.. She give the exact date they arrived in Mt. Carmel..

She relates the prices of vegetable, stocks, etc. which is quite interesting.. I translated the letter the best I could because, as most here know, people wrote what they heard..

If anyone is interested in a copy in its original state I can scan it and send it to you, or if you send me a mailing address I will send it that way.. I also have Josiah's will that was probated in 1888.. I can send that also..

In Peace & Patriotism,

Carl McClung

Richard Lee McClung
Carl Leslie McClung
Henry Josiah McClung
Charles Davis McClung
Josiah McClung
Jemima McClung

PS: I have documented this line back to Jemima.. Many say that "a James McClung" is the father.. I can't and haven't seen anyone else that can document this fact..

PSS: I descend through Josiah's 1st. wife Mary Fletcher who is buried "somewhere in Ga".. I have pictures of Josiah, Margaret Rister, and all there children's headstones.. I'm less than 30 miles from Harris Creek Cemetery where they are buried..
