Seek any/all information about Mary McDonald, born in Glengarry area; wife of Archibald B. McDonnell (born Oct. 18, 1814 at Fort William, Scotland). Among their children is Catherine McDonnell, born June 29, 1850, in Alexandria, Ontario. Information about Archibald's family extremely welcome, as well. Thanks!

I am also researching McDonald, McDonnell/McDonell and I know these given names recur in my family tree as well as my relatives stemming from Glengarry county. My great great grandfather was a Ronald McDonell from that area who moved to Sand Point, Ontario. My research is fuzzy but I would hate to lose a potential contact.

My great grandfather was George D. McDonald, born c. 1860, in Kenyon, Glengarry, Ontario. I have no information as to his parents or siblings, but family anecdotes suggest the spelling of his name changed to McDonald from Mcdonnell (note the lower case d).

George married Henrietta Marden in Michigan and they moved to Massey Ontario where they were buried.

Any further information would surely be appreciated.

Know that Ellen McDONELL married Nelson Eugene OSMUN after 1878 and before 17 Jul 1885 but haven't been able to find a marriage license. They were living in or around Ottawa when their son Rinald Wm. was bpt. According to 1891 census of Ottawa she was 33 and born in Canada. We think it was possible that she was a cousin of Nelson's third wife
Mary Catharine d/o Donald and Catharine (McMILLAN) McPHEE married 4 Nov 1896 in Alexandria, we would like to know what happened to Ellen.
Mary Catharine, according to marriage license was born in Kenyon, according to her dau. on 7 Aug 1877. Family all thought she was born in Scotland because of her accent.
She raised the three children of that second marriage.

Youngest son of Archibald "Buffallo" McDonell and Mary McDonald McDonell
Paragraph re: Mary McDonald-McDonnell
Mother was born in the Township of Lochiel about five miles from where I was born. Lochiel joins the Township of Kenyon. Ask your Aunt Anna about these places as she was there later than I was. Sixty-nine years is a long time to remember the land of your birth. Ask her if she remembers Lot No. 8, 4th Concession of Kenyon, Alexandria P.O. Glengarry County, Ontario. That was our address when we lived there.

I would be happy to share what information I have. I am personally looking for information regarding oldest son Duncan's wife Margaret.

My family research also contains the names McDonnell and Mc/MacDonald from Sand Point who worked in the lumber industry. Alexander Scott MacDonald who married Mary Hickey was born in the Alexandria area. His daughter Margaret Isabella known as Margaret or Maggie married Richard Dorion a culler for the Lumber Companies. Alexanders mother Ann married another McDonald in Alexandria area. She has half siblings as Margaret Scott married a 2nd time. She married Samuel McDonald and had 2 sons Duncan and James. Duncans birth certificate lists his name as a McDonnell who was born in Portage du Fort. Duncan married a Julia Ann Keyes and lived in Arnprior.
Samuels parents were a Donald McDonald/McDonnell who married a Sarah Kennedy. They lived in glengarry or Alexandria. Samuel had a brother named Duncan who had a son named Archibald who married a Catherine Mckinnon. I hope some of this is helpful.

In my prior message I listed Samuel's parents as Donald McDonald and Sarah's last name as Kennedy. Kennedy is a mistake.
