I have a Jirah Mumford, b.1747, d.1826, married to Deborah Lillibridge, b. 1756, d. 1827. Their daughter, Mary, b. 1777, d. 1854 married Silas Kellogg, b. 1767, d. 1853. They were all born in Preston, Wayne County, PA. Mary and Silas Kellogg had a son, Jirah Mumford Kellogg. b. 1810.

Jirah Mumford and Deborah Lillibridge Mumford are buried in the Mumford Cemetery in Wayne County, but I cannot find Silas and Mary Mumford Kellogg there.

Could this be the same Jirah Mumford and Deborah Lillibridge that you mentioned? Their dates are different. Hope you can help me. Thanks.

The Mumford family of Pleasant Mount, Wayne County, PA are descendants from Jireh Mumford (a.k.a. Jirah Mumford) of Rhode Island and his wife Deborah Lillibridge. The information I posted is from a book by Raymond Sampson "The history of Starrucca" and his book "Starrucca Remembrances."

If you check out the link below:
http://genforum.genealogy.com/mumford/
and search for "Jireh" "Jirah" or "Peleg" you will probably find descendants researching this same family line who may have information on your ancestors. There is a Florence Mumford who posted and is researching the Mumford family from that area.

I am not researching this family. I have the honor of living in a historic home once occupied by Warren W. Mumford and his family. I have met many Mumford descendants and they have been kind and shared stories with me about the Mumford family, which I am able to share with others researching this family.

I will forward your post to a wonderful person, I met who is researching the Kellogg-Mumford family of Pleasant Mount. She may be able to give you some clues to your John Wakeman Mumford.

Good Luck in your search!

Patricia, Loreda forwarded the link to this site. I am a direct descendent of Deborah Lillibridge and Jirah Mumford. Their daughter married my great grandfather, and my grandfather, Jirah H. Kellogg was named after him. I have been to Loreda's "Mumford" home, and it couldn't be in better hands with a couple who truly love history and what they have. I don't know anything about James and Mary unfortunately. My grandfather was born in Pleasant Mt., but the family left in the late 1890's for MO. I have done very little research on the Mumford's, and most of what I know is from Loreda. I'll send you an email if the address is correct on this site with more info.
