I don't know if our families are connected, but my Feldt/Felt/Feld family is also from Emsland:

Johan Philipp Feld , born between January and June 7, 1826, in Drope (parish of Lengerich), to Bernhard Albert Feld and Catharine Aleid Frese (aka Froese). He emigrated to the USA in 1847, arriving in New Orleans on Dec 30, 1847, on the ship Epaminondas. Johan Phillip married Anna Gesina Brand on Jul 22, 1851, St. Louis, MO. She was the daughter of Johann Bernard Brand and Maria Gesina Boestcher (aka Poetker). Anna also emigrated from Emsland. She was born July 29, 1826, in Rull by Dalum (in the parish of Gross Hesepe).

Any information appreciated.

Hi Patricia,

When I learned about the church records kept for my great, great grandparents (St. Joseph's church in St. Louis) I noted the Feld/Brand marriage of 1851 and wondered how the families were related. Four of us have documented our Feld family histories to the early-to-mid 1800s in Emsland and have yet to discover common ancestry there. It's my guess that we'll have to piece together family relationships back to the 1750s to find the link. In the 1790s our surname was spelled Veld in one point.

Hi, again. I have seen some of the marriage records from St. Joseph's. Which Felds are your ancestors? I'd be interested in whatever help you can give. We can correspond offline, if you prefer. Thanks. Patricia
