Grondin Family

My ancestor, Mary Jessie Grover, wife of Israel Ford, was born Marie-Genevieve Grondin. Her parents were Maxime Grondin and Adelina Charest. She was born in St. Francois, PQ, Canada in 1855 and died in Laconia, NH on 22-August-1928. It was common to change the name from Grondin to Grover. Israel Ford, her husband, was actually born Nazaire Forand. I do have some Grondin data, but not a great deal. Perhaps this will help one or more of you looking.

I was SO excited to find this very information today in the parish registers of Pierreville while I was at the library. I am in desperate need of her marriage record to Nazaire Forant, whom I suspect had emigrated to the United States by the time of their marriage. The marriage would have taken place in the late 1870's. I know the family lived in Barton, VT for a number of years before moving to New Hampshire and am told that the record COULD exist in Clinton County, NY.....I'm at a loss....any help at locating her marriage would be WONDERFUL. I do know that at her death, she had a sister Leona Hannah that was still alive in Canada...this sister was born Thersule Leonille Almisine also at Pierreville.

The sister was Therside Léonile Almésine Grondin: born 13march 1860 Pierreville. I will try to locate Nazaire Forand. Did you look on naturalization paper.

Nothing in the naturalization record really gave much information. It states that he came into the U.S. as a minor, but doesn't state where. Slowly, I have been able to uncover some information...for years, I've had no luck with this family at all. Now, as it turns out, it's THIS family that holds my link to Elder William Brewster of the Mayflower.

I have found more information on Nazaire Forand and Marie Jesse Grondin since my last entry. They were married at Sheffield, Vermont 16-May-1875. He was called Israel Foot or Fort in the record, which is smudged by ink, and she is called Jessie Grover. It appears that Nazaire's mother and step father were in Ashland, New Hampshire by 1870, having purchased some property there. On the census, Nazaire is 15 years old and is already being called Israel Ford. I'm wondering if it isn't the influence of his mother, Roxana Phelps, that the name became so anglicized. That family was Anglican, and just this past April the research I provided on Roxana's line was accepted by the Massachusetts Society of Mayflower Descendants. A search of the land records for Israel in the state of New Hampshire has produced nothing of value yet, and he died (in an apartment he rented in Manchester, New Hampshire) in 1910.

Hello ! Do you know the name of the brothers of your ancestor Marie-Geneviève Grondin ? Also, the ones of Maxime Grondin ? My gfather was Ernest Grondin and his father was Sévère Grondin(born on 17 may 1847). They were born in St-François, Pq Canada, which is now named Beauceville. Since there was not many Grondin at that time, maybe they are related ? Let me know :)

Thank you

I haven't used this message board in a long time. However, it appears that your family descends from Pierre Grondin and Marie Fournier in the following way:

Severe Grondin, b. 17-May-1847 Beauceville (NOT St. François Du Lac but the parish of St. François, Beauce) was a son of Rémi Grondin and Archange Dupuis.

Rémi Grondin was the son of Pierre Grondin and Marguerite Caron dite Lavande

Pierre Grondin was a son of Joseph Grondin and Marie Angélique Geneviève Poire

Joseph Grondin was the son of Joseph Grondin and Marie Josephte Dodier

Joseph Grondin, Sr. was a son of René Grondin/Grandin and Marie Angélique Albert and

René Grondin was a son of Pierre Grondin and Marie Fournier.

This is a different line from my Grondin family. I descend from Jean Grondin and Sainte Mignot/Mignaud
