My grandfather, Jess Haney, was born in Missouri circa 1898 to
William and Oney Haney. Jess was a twin brother to Bess Haney, as well as other
siblings. Jess died in 1965 in Oklahoma. I'm looking for any information
on William, my great-grandfather. Thanks!

Cate, would a William D., b l871 in Kansas fit Jess' father? I have a scrap of a note that mentions Wm. and Jes, but I had thought Jes meant Jesse, a wife's name---bet it could be a child's though. What are the other siblings names? more info yet?

Haney twins

Cate,
Both my grandparents were Haneys...different families. I keep them separated in a number of ways. One ways being that my G-mother's Haney family had twins, the other did not.
G-mother's family was of a blondish, German-looking group. (the other side is Irish.)
Our twins showed up abt every other generation, and were almost always female.
Any ideas on this?
Don't know where this family was before they showed up in Floyd and Morgan Cos in KY.
Thanks,
Phyllis

Interesting Haney history! My husband's family (Haney) has a history of twin births, male and female. My fatherin-law, Lennis Haney b. 1893, had twin brothers and sisters. My brother-in-law has twin sons. Three first cousins of the same generation also have twins. My Haney roots are traced back to 1760 in Bedford Co. VA. William Haney married Sarah Susan "Sally" Preston dau of Phillip Preston and Mary Vaughan. Sally and Wm. moved into Floyd Co. in the early 1800s. Their children branched out into Carter, Lawrence and Morgan Cos. KY. Some moved into Ohio and others went on into Tennessee. Can you connect with any of this? Wm Haney was a Rev. War veteran. His son John who marrid Mahala Brumfield was an 1812 veteran. John and Mahala moved to Carter Co. before 1850. They had about eight children. John remarried to Elizabeth Sutton Cook in 1843, and produced at least six more children.

Hi Linda, how are you?

I was wondering if you could tell me which of Elizabeth's children were from her previous marriage before John.

Carolyn,
I am VERY interested in the book that you are writing about. My ancestor was Hataway Haney born in NC.wo have moved to MS. Have been told that his ancestor, perhaps his father, was William Spears Haney from NC. Any help appreciated. You may contact me at coquessia@yahoo.com Thanks!! Coque, Waco, TX

Hi
Thanks for your interest. The name Hataway Haney is not familiar to me. All of Wm. S. Haney's children are accounted for and with the exception of one son, Norfleet Haney, so are the grandchildren. Norfleet Haney's widow, Winnie, & her children, including Starling her only son, settled near Tyler Texas. They are buried there. If Starling had sons they would have been born after 1890 probably in Texas.

William S. Haney was born 31 July 1803 & died 10 Sept. 1884. Sons were: David James, Norfleet B., & William Morris.
William S. was the son of Hezekiah Haney. Hezekiah's sons were David B., Hardy H., & William S. You will notice that some lineage pages show another son, Holland Haney. Holland was not a son of Hezekiah. Frankly we just don't know who Holland's parents were we just know he was not a brother of William S. Haney.

William Speirs Haney is often confused with a William S. Haney who married Elizabeth Bradberry (Bradbury) in Rockingham Co. VA. This family migrated to Tennessee I believe and the two men were close to the same age.

Sorry I'm not able to be of more help to you.

Carolyn

Carolyn,
Thanks for your help. I guess I will continue to look for info. on William Spiers or Spears Haney since I was given that he is an ancestor. Maybe someone will have the missing link and let me know. Again, thanks a lot! Coque
