My great great great great grandfather's name was Dempsey Iles. He married Sarah Cherry (Aaron Cherry's daughter). Dempsey had 1 brother, William; 2 sisters, Nancy and Elizabeth. His father's name was William. Looking for any information. This Iles family settled in the Sugartown-Dry Creek, Louisiana area.

Judy, I believe one of my ancestors, William Thompson was married to Nancy Iles. Can you confirm this. William Thompson is buried in Merryville without his wife and it has been confusing to say the least when so many names are being tossed around. Any other light you could shed on the Thompson/Iles union would be helpful.

I found a Nancy Thompson that was buried in Caddo Parish but don't know if it is the same Nancy Thompson or not.

Thanks for your help.

This is the information that I have on Nancy Iles at this time. I am still searching. She is the daughter of William Iles (born March 05, 1763, in Halifax County, North Carolina; died June 04, 1844 in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana) and Elizabeth Pace (born November 07, 1761; died 1830-1840 in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana). She was married to Archibald Thompson (born April 12, 1792 in North Carolina
died 1850-1854). Does this information help? Let me know. I just haven't finished my research. If this is helpful and you have more, please let me know.

The Black Side

I represent the Black side of the Iles family and we are large. My great grandfather Eli Iles was born in 1842, died in 1941. He was the son of William Iles, who was the son of a slave and a white man who visited the Ashburn-Lillie Plantation in Rapides Parish Louisiana. This would have been around 1800. The plantation owner was the Luckett family (still in Alexandria). We would love to know who our white ancestor is. We don't know the slave either. Her name was Millie or Lillie. William had children with the names I see on this board: Nancy, Raliegh, Davis, James, John, etc. If the subject is not forbidden, we'd like to join the search.

Judy,

Judy, thanks so much for the information on Nancy Iles and Archibald Thompson. I will check it out. I think you have found a connection for me. If it proves out I will let you know and I have information from Archibald's son William Thompson on down to the present generation.

Do you have any info on Archibalds place of marriage and date and aslo his parents and his siblings. I know this is a lot to ask. But anything at all including a GEDCOM file would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Ronald O. Thompson

Judy, I, by accident, found a Gedcom file on the Iles that goes back to William Iles in North Carolina. If you will contact me at scoot01@flash.net I will be happy to email it to you. It may be yours for all I know. But it does seem fairly complete with at least the direct line. I am still looking for a connection from my Archibald Thompson who came to Louisian with a Demcy Iles, a William Iles, and a George Smith. I found a census in St Landry Parish where they were all living next to each other or at least they were listed consecutivly. I need to know how you made the connection from Nancy Iles to Archibald Thompson of North Carolina or at least where I can go to find the documentation. Thanks and please email me and I will send the Gedcom file to you.
Regards, Ronald Thompson

I would love to have a copy of what you have. I haven't had much time during the last three or four weeks to do much genealogy searching. If it is any different, I will let you know.
