Liebenow origins?

Following a lead from immigration records found in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, I went to Hamburg, Germany a couple of years ago to get some information from the State Archives. According to the records there, my great grandfather, Wilhelm Liebenow, originally came from Walkow, Prussia in the mid-1800's. Since Prussia no longer exists, I found antique maps of the territory on the 'Net, but could not locate "Walkow", either because it was too small to be included on the map or because it was hard to read the town names. I doubt that it was misspelled because this name came right from the German records. I am trying to determine whether it's now part of Germany or Poland (or possibly even Russia?) Any advice, hints, or information, please let me know. Thanks!

Are you from Robert Liebenow and Marie Luedtke's branch?

There is a Robert Liebenow in our tree- he is 40ish and is the son of Carl B. Liebenow of Massachusetts. Where is your Robert Liebenow from?

Caroline, I'm related to Liebenow in the Pittsfield MA area. Are you from here or just gathering info here?

Hi, a combination of both. I'm from Massachusetts, and my father's side is related to the Pittsfield Liebenows.

Most of my Liebenows are in the Stephentown/Berlin area of New York (just across the state line). Liebenow is on my Mother's side. I'm not sure about Pittsfield Liebenows, but I'll have to ask Mom about it.

New York state (particularly Berlin) has been mentioned frequently in my Liebenow family tree as well. About 10 years ago, there was a Liebenow family reunion in NY. My paternal great grandparents were Kate Specht (spelling?) and Karl Wilhelm Liebenow, both of whom reportedly came from New York. Any connection?

Berlin is not very big, we must be related somehow. I couldn't get in touch with my Mother last night, I'll try again in an hour or so and let you know. She is a Liebenow, her mother was a Dymond (sp?) Also related to "Kneuter" (sp?) in same area.

I found Walkow listed on the following web page. Don't know if it is the same, but it would be a place to start. My own Liebenow ancestors came from the Province of Pozen, State of Brombus which is now a part of Poland.
