Hello,
My father was born in Croatia in 1950, my grandmother still lives there (Jelena) and was married to Dusan Pavlica. They divorced and she remarried a Milan Pavlica. My father doesn't have any brothers or sister there, but here in Canada he has 2 brothers and sisters...I would like to know the history of the name Pavlica, if possible.
My aunts and uncles are George,Violet, John, and Sophie. I know I have cousins all through out the US, but I never met any of them. Any information would be great.
Thank-you

Pavlica

Hello Melissa !
I was searching for my maiden name on this site, when I saw your letter. I have come to U.S. two years ago. I was born and raised in Croatia. Name Pavlica comes from Raska, part of Serbia, where two monasteries were built centuries ago. I have a book about that, so if you're interested I can send you few chapters. My father's family is from Udbina, little place in Croatia, but they all moved to nearby town Gospic, where I was born. During the civil war in Croatia 1991-1995 their family house was completely destroyed. Some members of family remained in Croatia, and others (like me) are all over the world.I wonder if you speak Serbo-croatian, it would be so much easier to communicate in "old language" for me.
Sincerely, Natali

Zelim ti ljepe dane...

Hello! I'm so sorry about not responding to everyone sooner! I just remembered about this, and I received a message about another name (my mother's maiden name). I've printed off all the messages on this discussion and I'm going to bring them to my dad, this weekend. Thank you so much for your replies! I hope we can continue talking together.
Oh and no I don't speak any Serbo-Croatian...sorry. I understand Italian and French. My dad's mom, wasn't in Canada, and I spent most of my time with my mom's mom back home who is Italian. So yes I'm half Yugoslavian and half Italian!

Cao Urska!

Hi Melissa !
I'm glad you've answered me. Yes, I've read your other message and I realise why you don't speak our language. I'll send you some of the material I have, but it is all written in Serbo-Croatian. Anyway, you'll probably be interested in the style the monasteries have been built - named Stara Pavlica and Nova Pavlica (old and new Pavlica). You'll hear from me soon...
Sincerely, Natali

Pozdrav Natali!

Lijep pozdrav!
Zelim ti ljepe dane.
