I'm just getting this started but I'm trying to research my family - Zwierzchowski - from Chicago. I've found some in Buffalo that appear to be unrelated and have no further information than my grandfather - Richard Stanley Zwierzchowski and grandmother Francis Pavol. Any help would be appreciated

The census is going to be your best friend, but it will feel like the enemy because of the many spelling variants of your family name. My quick list is at the end of my post. I recommend that you consider subscribing to an online census service, such as the images online at ancestry.com
Keep in mind that the spelling of the name in the census may not reflect the settled choice of the family. Rather it is the result of what the enumerator thought he/she heard and the transcriber tried to read. Do not let the spelling variations throw you off. Watch for first names that you recognize. Here then is the list of variants I have collected:
Zwierzchowski
Zwierzehowski
Zwierzykowski
Zwierzeykowski
Zwierzyowsyki
Zwierzyhonski
Zwierzyskowsky
Zwierzychowski
Zwieszychowski
Zwierkowski
Zwierzykewski
Zwieroy??howski??
Zwierkalowski
Zvierkalowski
Zwieszykowski
Zwiechowski
Zwierzchwski
Zwierzchonski
Zwierzchowska
Zwierskowski

Hi Joe,

I'm wondering what names you have in Buffalo. My Z's came from Poland through Buffalo, to Chicago and then to Milwaukee. Perhaps they are of the same family that your Chicago's are in. Would like to hear from you. I'd be happy to share any info I have.

I am also just getting started in my search. I just recently found out that my family name was Zwierzchowski until it was changed in 1937 to Swiedals. My family is definitely from Chicago, there are also some in Michigan, Swiedals that is.

I'm looking for ancestors of my great grandfather Alexander Zwierzchowski..who was a Polish count who may have lived in France, was an engineer, and might have migrated to south america. I know that some zwierzchowskis came to American from Istanbul, Turkey..but that was not their original name..but they took on the family name of the people they worked for. He graduated from Univesity of Edinbourgh, Scotland and was the same age as prince edward the seventh. He was married to my great grandmother...but left her for another woman...i'm trying to find who that woman was and did they have children.
