McNair connected to Clan MacNaughton?

Our family (McNair) is said to be associated with the MacNaughton Clan. What would this mean? My branch came to Canada in the 1820's from Kildonall,Campbelltown.

McNair is listed as a Sept of Clan MacNaughton. What that means is that the McNairs are considered born to the clan.
