I am trying to find out when my great grandfather was postmaster of a small town in Iowa. The town was in Davis Co., Bloomfield, Ia. This had to before June of 1913 as he died in June of that year. His name was Jasper Newton Milliken. He had a son named Harry A. Milliken, who I thought maybe was a letter carrier. His other son was James Curtis Milliken, who was my grandfather.
If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it.

I work for the postal service and every office ( in Kansas) I have ever worked in had a nice framed list on the wall with the names and dates served of the postmasters. Try asking the office he worked in.

Laura, you've got me curious now. Postal workers are considered Federal employees, right? I wonder if there is any repository of historical employee records archived somewhere that a genealogist could make a request for information -- much like the military records available through NARA. Anyone know?

Now that am not sure of, I'm sure there is but it might be protected information, I'll ask at work and see. Postmasters were/are considered pretty important people in the Postal Service, the rest of us are just little people. I know years ago you had to declare a political party to get a job. If the Pres. was Rep. Postmasters were Rep., if the Pres. was Dem. the postmasters were Dem.. I live in a small town and I've read old newspapers that talk about the goings on at the Post Office. The post office was an important thing to a town. I bet you will find their names in the newspaper.
