Does anyone have any information on this orphanage or know anyone who lived there. It was in Cook County, Illinois. My maternal grandmother lived there I know in 1920. Her name was Irene Miller and her parents were Russian and Jewish according to the census.

I know two boys who lived there 1929-1930s. You can find it on the census.

By any lucky chance were either of these boys named:
Sam, Louis, Hyman, Morris, Harry, or Frank? I'm looking for members of the Miller family. Specifically Irene MIller and her brothers.
Also, I'm not clear on what you mean by your previous message. How do I go about finding it on the census? I"m new to all of this searching. otto@ci.gresham.or.us

Thank you.

My husband, Bernard Lucas, was in Marks-Nathan until 1942 when he graduated HS and went into the army. His younger sister & brother were also there.
Contact Faivel Berns, a Chicago attorney, who has all the records of the "kids" in Marks-Nathan OR the Jewish Children's Bureau at 1 S.Franklin St., Chicago. They should have lots of info about the orphanage.
A few years ago, there was a reunion and 600 people were there. Good luck.

Thanks so much for your email. I previously did contact the Jewish Children's Bureau but the records I was looking for re Irene C. MIller and her siblings (1920's) were destroyed by fire I was told. I will try and locate the attorney you mentioned.

Hello! I am looking for any information about Marks Nathan orphanage.

I am trying to write a novel about my experience as a volunteer with an elderly gentleman (who passed away a few years ago). He was an orphan at Marks Nathan I believe in the late 1930s, early 1940s. He shared many stories with me and I am trying to piece together some information to find out more. He died without friends or family members, and I am hoping to find some connections as I feel I was the only ears for his last thoughts on his lifetime.

Does anyone have any tips?

His name was Allen Kogen.

Any insights, links or help would be much appreciated.

I'm interested in learning about my grandfather and his siblings who lived at the Orphanage in the early 1900's. You said Faivel Berns has all the records of the "kids" in Marks-Nathan. Can you possibly email me those records? My grandfather was probably there sometime between 1908-1914 or so. I want to learn about his siblings and parents names. His name was Julius Jack Morris. He had siblings named Francis, Jacob, and Anne... but I'm not sure if any or all of his siblings were there with him.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Jeremy Morris

Sorry I can't help you there, but my step sister lived at Marks Nathan around that time. Her name was Joyce Singer. Did you know her?

My mom and aunt, identical twins BEVERLY and BARBARA DORFMAN, were at Marks Nathan from 1929 to approx. 1945. They are no longer with us but over the years they have shared many stories with their families about their experiences. If anyone remembers them or has stories they can share, please post them. My sisters and cousins would love to hear them. Thanks, Marty Apple
