From an old 1963 Rueben Cooper listing of the Quaker Valley Cemetery:

Lewis, Anna R. #290 Born: x Died: 1882/11-18 Comments: 39y - Wife of R.A. - Born On The Isle Of Guernsey

She may or may not still have a marker.

I am also looking for a burial at this cemetery. His name was Samuel A. Stevenson (S.A. Stevenson) died 1915. Any help appreciated.

Thanks!

Melanie,

Check out Find A Grave, where you'll find a photo of his tombstone.

Stevenson, S A
b. Apr. 3, 1839 d. Aug. 16, 1915
Quaker Valley Cemetery
Riverton
Cherokee County
Kansas, USA

He is the only Stevenson on the listing.

Stephenson, Chase 43 1862/09-21 1903/11-07
Stevenson, S. A. 19 1839/04-03 1915/08-16

The Cemetery now called Stevenson Cemetery west of Galena, Kansas was before they replaced the sign Stephenson Cemetery. It was started by a Stephenson, and as far as I know, there isn't a Stevenson buried in it.

Thanks very much for this info. It's nice to have a photo. Can you tell me what the 19 means after S. A. Stevenson's name? Surely it has to be something different than age.

I'm sorry, I'm so used to it, I don't even think about it.

I believe that it would be the number used by the person making the book listing, to indicate the tombstone.

I don't have the actual book, just the transcribed listing.

Examples:

Name Number Birthdate Deathdate Comments

Carnahan, Sarah M. 18 [1842 - 1927] Mother - Wife of F.M.
Stevenson, S. A. 19 [1839/04-03 - 1915/08-16]
Meeker, Clara Ann 20 [1883 - 1916] ssw Robert
Meeker, Robert 20 [1886 - 1948] ssw Clara Ann
Kenahan, Anna E. 21 [1861/04-26 - 1915/03-10] Wife of T.F.
Norman, Fredrick 22 [x - 1910/03-30] 6y 8m 28d - Son of R.F. & Nellie

x indicates blank or no info.
