The Windsor's of Windsor

On my husband's maternal side, his mother, Winifred May Horton, was the daughter of Joseph F. Horton and Eleanor Jane Windsor. Eleanor was the daughter of Henry Windsor and Jane Bland. The Windsor's came from the Hampstead Heath area of London, England. Eleanor Jane Windsor married Joseph Horton at the Established Church of All the Saints in the Childshill District of London, England. It is my understanding that Henry Windsor was the son of a William Windsor. Now, this family of Windsor's eventually found their way to Windsor, Ontario Canada. Henry and his wife Jane Bland came to join their daughter Alice and her husband Ben Horn. Old Henry was a caretaker at a local school who died in a railway crossing accident. Other children who found their way to Windsor were their son Henry, who was a bachelor, who died by drowning in a well at the family farm. They had besides Alice and Eleanor another daughter Pauline (Polly), and another son Frederick. Henry and Jane both died here in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Incidentally, Jane Bland, Henry's wife was the daughter of a clergyman, The Reverend Frederick Bland which of course has no bearing on the regal name of Windsor. Those ancestors in Windsor who still bear the name of Windsor are William Windsor and his sons, and Douglas Windsor and his son. The other Windsor ancestors bear the name Chantler, Horn, Bertrand. Good luck, hope this is a thread for one of those Windsor's on the message board.

Since this original posting 'The Windsors of Windsor' a great deal of information has been gathered. By way of an update this is what has been discovered.

Thomas Windsor, b. c1755 - died cJune 1829 burial 7th June 1829 Hampstead, St. John's Parish Church.

Thomas Windsor, b. c1781 died 59 years 9th Sept. 1840. Married Sarah Hoare b. c1785, died 5th Feb. 1859, Married by banns 4th July 1811.

Henry Windsor (Sr.), b. 5th Jan. 1823, bapt. 2nd March 1823 with his bros William Windsor b. 28th Feb. 1821 in St. John's Parish Church Hampstead.

Henry Windsor (Sr.) married Elizabeth Hipwell 14th December 1846 Kensington, Paddington Parish, Middlesex.

Henry Windsor (Jr.) b. 1st Sept 1849 Hampstead, died 24th January 1920 in Windsor Ontario Canada (train accident). Married Jane Bland 6th April 1873 in Bethnal Green St. Philippa(s) Church MDX.

Comment: Henry Windsor Sr. was a labourer, and his wife Elizabeth's trade - bootbinder. Her father George & bros. William were bootmakers. The 1851 Census shows this couple living at #6 Beans Cottages Child's Hill, Henry & Elizabeth their infant son Henry; and his widowed mother Sara and his brothers George 25 and John 22. On the 1861 - the widowed Sarah with her widower son Joseph & his children Sarah 9 & Henry 9?

Would you like to exchange information?

Norma

It would be nice to have a date with all this information. I am looking for Windsors/Winzers who came to the US about 1700. Any body know of these folks? The first known settlement in the US was South Carolina but might have come from Maryland.Austin Winzer and son Anderson Winzer by name

Pat - This is a co-incidence - Just this morning I posted an updated e-mail message for the Windsor Family on Hampstead/Hendon Middlesex on the Roots Board. This message provides time lines.
You are right, of course, the name Windsor is variously spelled 'Windsor', 'Winsor', 'Wensor', 'Winzer'.
Blessings from Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

Hello Norma

We haven't been in touch for a few years!!!! I still believe that 'my' Thomas Windsor born around 1812 in Middlesex is very likely to be the first child of Thomas Windsor and Sarah Hoare but haven't been able to prove it (despite help from the London Metropolitan Archives and Society of Genealogists - of which I am a member again). I intend to use a professional for this when I have some funds available. I am still an avid genealogist but spend most of my time researching other people's families, I am now living back in Dorset and my sister in law's family are keeping me extremely busy as most of them came from here (Paul, Ensor, Biddlecombe). It is great when you can actually make links. Just wish I could do it with Windsor.

Very best wishes, Vanessa
