Has anyone tried to install FTM 2011 on a windows 8 machine. Have just had to replace my laptop and windows 8 is now the standard operating system. Just wondered if anyone has come across any problems. Thanks

Family Tree Maker 2012
Recommended System Requirements:

Windows XP, Vista (32-bit or 64-bit), Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit), or Windows 8 (32-bit or 64-bit)
Hard disk space: 500 MB for installation
Memory: 1 GB RAM
Display 1024 x 768 resolution
D-ROM Drive
All online features require Internet access

It is my understanding there will not be a FTM 2013, but FTM 2012 will continued to be offered through out 2013. Whether the name will be changed or not I don't know.

I don't know if FTM uses the ergonomically unfriendly Windows 8 interface or not. OK on a 6" table screen impossible of a large screen laptop or desktop

I think you are referring to the Windows 8 tablets that are running the RT version.

Yes, there is no FTM for that version, but the Windows 8 PC version, that is on a laptop or desktop, will handle FTM just fine.

I've not actually installed FTM 2011 on Windows 8 but I updated my laptop with an existing installation to Windows 8 and it continues to run fine. If anything it is more stable.

I got it working after reading this from Microsoft. I just enabled .Net 3.51 rather than downloading the full version.
