Forest co: to B.Bailer, Do you think your John and my Conrad born in 1825 could be brothers? Conrad's first born is named Henry and following naming patterns, named his first born after the grandfather. I am still confirming where Conrad was born.(otherthan Mecklemburg, Germany) He was listed in a 1860 census with the last name spelled Bailer. He immigrated with the Fred.Griesback family from Braunweiler, Rhineland Germany. Do you have a list of any brothers/sisters of John?
have a great day - Karla

Just wanted you to know I'm also researching Wisconsin BOEHLERS. My line stems from John BOEHLER, b. 1835 in Wonsheim, Rhinehessen, Germany; immig. abt. 1852; d. 1925 Clark Co., WI. (His father, Henry BOEHLER; his mother, Anna Maria JUNG, both of Germany.)

I've found my BOEHLERS in Chippewa, Eau Claire, Clark and Milwaukee counties so far...

Bryn,
It is an interesting twist about the spelling.Conrad was the only one to spell it Bailer, could have been a census takers mistake since Conrad could not read or write. All of his children in recent census records spell the name Boehler. There is always a link somewhere - right?
I found a John B that owend land in CHippewau CO. in 1875 could this be yours? My John would have been only 12 yrs old, a bit young I think to own land.
I'll keep in touch, just keep watching the board.
thanks, karla

Funny you should ask that; I've been searching for John BOEHLER's siblings for a while, with no luck. Recently, I did come up with one:

Henry BOEHLER, b. 1841 in Rhinehessen, Ger.; m. Aug. 1886 in Milwaukee, WI. He was a taylor who fought in the Civil War.

I know that doesn't help much, but right now it's the only other name I have. (At least, for me, it indicates a link to the Milwaukee BOEHLERS, of which there were many.)

Conrad's BAILER surname -- if it wasn't just a mistake by a Census taker -- is an interesting twist. Although my GGGrandfather John was adament about spelling his name BOEHLER, his son changed the family name to BAILER at the turn of last century. I have long wondered why he chose that particular spelling.

I wish I could be of more help. Mecklenburg is a considerable way from Rhinehessen -- and John is definitely from Wonsheim, Rhinehessen, Germany -- but there's always a possibility they could be related.

Unfortunately, if there is a link, I haven't found it. Yet.

Let's keep in touch.

Karla,

Yes, the John Boehler from Chippewa County *is* my John. Here's some quick info. about him; maybe it will indicate a link with your people:

- Parents: Henry BOEHLER + Anna Maria JUNG
- John immigrated to USA: abt. 1852
- John married: Theresia RANECKER (b. 1847, poss. Eilf, Germany, d. 1930 in Rusk Co. WI) Catholic.
- Marriage date: 1866, Eau Claire, Eau Claire, WI
- John died: Jan. 1925 Edson, Chippewa Co., WI
- John and Theresia's children: (Mary married an INFALT); Frank (PINTER); Franzceska (SCHULTZ); Theresa (LUBNER); Katerina (VELCHECK).

Sorry I didn't respond sooner. I've been away from the board for a while...

I am trying to find out who my great-grandparents, parents were. Do you have an Edward J. Boehler born in Milwaukee, died in Waupaca 1976 in any of your research? I would appreciate any help.

Laura,
I have an Edward Boehler born January 29, 1893. I am not sure where. His birth was not in Winnebago or Outagamie counties. I have a death as Feb 1976 but this has NEVER been confirmed. My Edward's father was Andrew and mother Maria (Kretzgen).
In 1900 Andrew and his family are living in Oshkosh Wisconsin. Andrew had other children. Email me at my home address if this connects

I may have responded to this elsewhere, but there are about 30 Boehler & Bohler entries in "Milwaukee's German Newspapers; an index of death notices and related items" (1844-1950). These include a Henry Boehler (1916). Other surnames referenced with Boehler include Schweig Guenther and Weyenberg Mueller Wegemann.
