I would like to know the surname for the wife of Basil Doucette. All I know is her name is "Mary". Basil was born about 1830 and in the 1881 Gloucester census Basil and Mary Doucette are listed with children:Basil, 17yrs, Peter, 16 yrs, Thomas 14 yrs, Elizabeth, 12 yrs, Sarah, 9 yrs, Mary-Ann, 5 yrs
and my great grandparents also are listed living in the household:
Comerford John- father, 24 yrs, N.-B., Catholic, Irish labourer.
Comerford Anne, wife 21 yrs, N.-B.. Catholic, French
Children:
Maggie, 1yr, Joseph J. 2 months.

Thank you, this seems like a possibility. Except that according to the 1881 census Gloucester, Mary would've been 9 years old in 1849. I know census information isn't always exact...

The info is probably right. In 1891 Census, she is born in 1834, in 1901 born in 1831.
Also Thomas, son, 22, parents: Basil Doucet and Marie Melancon married Eliza Jane Appleby on Jan. 27, 1891.

Also, death certificate: Mrs. Basil Doucet,nee Mary Melanson, born Beresford, died Bathurst, April 5, 1909, 74 years old

I think you can confirm it is the right person.

The Acadian house around 1790 was a wood-framed structure on a basalt fieldstone foundation. A massive hearth, oven and chimney stood at one end of a single room. The walls were partly infilled with clay and the roof was made of birch shingles. Marguerite was born around 1770. Her parents, Joseph Boudreau and Jeanne Marie Haché were married in Restigouche near the border of New Brunswick on January 7, 1761. Restigouche is now in Québec on the border of New Brunswick and on the Baie des Chaleurs where many Acadians hid until the end of the war. Her family moved to the Island of Miscou (near Caraquet) sometime before the birth of her brother Jean in 1776. Marguerite Boudreau had seven brothers and sisters.

Her father, Joseph Boudreau, was the son of Anselme & Marguerite Gaudet, born around 1738, he died at 59 in Bathurst on December 8, 1797. Her mother, Marie Jeanne Haché was the daughter of Jacques & Josette Boudreau. Marie Jeanne Haché died in Petit-Rocher on February 15, 1825 at the age of 90.

Marguerite Boudreau's marriage to Michel Pitre took place on June 3, 1789 in Nipisiguit [Bathurst] , the same day her sister Rose was married to Dominique Pinet. Both marriages were registered in Caraquet. The parish of St-Peter (later Ste-Famille) was a mission from 1620 and even in 1798 when the first Church was built, baptism, marriages and deaths were registered by passing missionnaries.
