When I attempt to download Fam Tree 2010 to my new laptop with Windows 8, the setup begins and goes to "Arch de Triomph background" and then hangs. I see another poster was successful after several tries. I am on my third attempt with no luck yet.

KBarber8635,
I am guessing that when you say "download" you mean install.
There is a delay in what is installed after that JPG file. That problem was resolved with FTM2011.
Let in continue to install.

Thank you for responding. I did mean to say "install" and not download, Russ. I called FTM's help line and was told I need to purchase FTM 2012 because the 2010 version is not compatible with Windows 8. Since I went ahead and ordered it, I guess I will get to find out what extra features the newer version has when my copy arrives.

Now that I jogged my memory a bit, I do remember it taking a long time to install, but eventually it did.

KBarber8635,
To give you a flavor, there were 100+ new features between FTM2010 and FTM2011. FTM2012 has more.
I have a blog, if you want to see what some of them are.

Hope that helps,
Russ

Russ,
I installed my FTM 2010 in my new desktop computer using the disc that I received for FTM 2010. My old computer had Windows XP. My new computer has Windows 8. I had no problems installing it or the data, so I thought. When I check for updates, I am told I do not have system administrator rights; that I need to either log in as the administrator on my computer or run FTM as the administrator. I checked and I am logged in as the administrator on the computer. To check on updates, I have to right click on the desktop icon for FTM, then left click on "run as administrator". A window appears and asks me "do you want to allow this program from an unknown publisher to make changes to your computer", I then click "yes". What did I do wrong, can you help?
Bill
