Place Names - 7 digit instead of name

Place Names - 7 digit instead of name

I have noticed that some members of Ancestry.com insist on quoting place names as a seven digit number. I have not been able to find what the seven digit number refers to and it is really frustrating when one of these appears in data in Ancestry.com links.

I have spent a lot of time researching this and drawn a complete blank.
Here are some examples...
1656734, Bedfordshire, England
1656790, Bedfordshire, England

They all seem to begin with 165 through 169.

Regards
Geoff

No, it's an old Ancestry problem. I know I've seen why somewhere but I cant remember.

But it IS an Ancestry problem and these numbers aren't LDS films.

Is this FTM file synced to your ancestry tree?

Weird things happen when files are synced.

Hello,
Thanks for the return.
I am 'sync'ed to my Ancestry.com tree, however this quirk was evident before then.
It occurs when I accept data from followed hints on Ancestry.com. I don't think it is Ancestry.com or FTM that has done this tree. It may be some other database software that has converted the place name to some sort of index code.
Some avenues I have pursued and rejected...
Grid reference x
Google map reference x
Soundex code x

If you do an Internet search for a particular code, then very occasionally I can match a code to a place.

e.g.
1671160, Middlesex, England = Hampton
1671403, Middlesex, England = Wood Green

Geoff
