Looking for information concerning Dirk Baar and his family. Dirk was born April 22, 1868 in Gronigan, NL. Dirk immigrated to the U.S. in 1889 and lived in Chicago, Illinois until his death on November 9, 1941. Dirk married a Diena (Bernadine) Swieringa May 30, 1894 and had 4 children by this marriage. I have completed information on the events after their arrival in the U.S., but lacking information on their lives in the Netherlands.
Information concerning Diena Swieringa's who was also born in Gronigon, NL. is also needed. Willing to exchange any and all information. My wife is the grand daughter to Dirk and Diena. Thank you.........

I came across your post from 2001. By now you probably have the info on family Baar and Swierenga that you were seeking?

Derk Baar is a brother to my Great Grandfather Simen Baar who emigrated to the U.S. in 1870 and settled in Chicago as did Derk. So I have a lot of info on the Baar tree from the Netherlands.

Diena Swierenga could be related to my wife. Her maternal family includes Henrietta Swierenga-Dykhius married to Ralph Dykhuis. They lived in Chicago as well.

I would love to share info on both families with you if you would like.

I'm interested in the Netherlands info. My family has a Derk from same area except dates are a little different.

My Derk (Richard/ Dick) Baar immigrated in 1874 or 1879 & date of birth is 1861. Married Anna nichoff He died 1891 in Michigan .
I think his father is Hendrik Jakobs Baar.

Hi,

I found Derk in the Dutch databases.
At his marriage to Anna Nichoff in 1891 his parent's names are listed as Henry Baar and Martha Dyke.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-11134-3855-69?c...

He was born in Uithuizermeden (province of Groningen) on 01 Apr 1861, son of Hindrik Jacobs Baar and Martha Dijk.

As a witness at his marriage is listed a Jacob Baar, living in Paris, Mich.

This is Derk's half brother.
Derk had another half brother, Willem, who also left for the USA

Dad Hindrik Jacob was married before.
These are the details of the family:

7. Derk Baar (male)

After the death of Hindrik Jacobs Baar, Martha remarried (her 3rd marriage) in 1865 to an Edze Pieterman.

And this Edze Pieterman leaves for the USA in 1881 with wife and 4 children.
The strange thing is, Edze and Martha never had any children..... If you want me to look into that, please let me know.

Kind regards,
Marianne
