migration from FTM 2012 for Windows to MAC

I am trying to get the media to migrate to my son's MAC as well as the rest but he can't get the media. The rest is ok. Can anyone figure out why the migration utility will not transfer my media even though I have very carefully checked the box to migrate media?

I have no heard of this problem before and have sent it to the developers for comment. I will report any advice received

My only thought would be to compact The FTM file before doing a transfer. Have you tried this?

My experience is with FTM2011 and FTMM 1. Because of the large file problems I used to regularly migrate back to Windows to export a gedcom or compact. I never included the media in the migration file either way.
Provided migrating produces the links correctly, there is probably no harm in converting the data file to Mac and then simply copying over the media folder. Nothing lost if it does not work.

barmccoy,

What Mac Version are you using?

So, you are going from FTM2012 to FTMM- (1 or 2)?

My son is the one with the MAC and he has the 2. I upgraded to 2012 for my PC because I thought that might be the problem. So I'm trying to go from 2012 to 2. This is very frustrating because I have a lot of media, 2,960. Total file size is 24,981 KB.

I generally do this periodically and when I just now did it, it only compressed it 2%, so that doesn't seem likely, but is a good thing to do.

It is not just the file compacting that you are doing when you compact.

You are doing something much more significant

You are reindxing the entire file and ensuring all the internal pointers are pointing to the correct records

Only one of these has to be corrupted and it can cause the program to misbehave

What I am hoping that you will report is what happens to the migration/media issue with a compacted file?

The FTM devlopes cannot duplicate this problem. I have never seen it either.

Please advise what version (build) of FTMM that you are using and also what File migration Utility version you are using?
