FTM2012 vsFTM11

I'm currently using FTM11 and I have no problems. But knowing that I will have to upgrade my laptop to Win 7 one day I bought FTM 2012. Will I be able to run both programs on my old laptop. I will be only using the 2012, but like to be able to look at the old one. If I need to. Do I install the new program and then just export from the older version or is it a little more complicated.. I saw a post about getting FTM 2005 starter first, then exporting , then exporting from there to 2012. Just a little confused.
Thank you

You can run both programs on your laptop. FTM 2012 will not overwrite FTM 11, FTM 2012 will offer to make a copy of your FTM 11 file and then convert the copy to FTM 2012 format.

Note that some portions of FTM 11 may not run correctly on Windows 7 or 8 particularly the PDF export

I have 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 all running on my New Windows 7 64 bit machine.

They all have been installed in different folders by default, one good thing FTM has done.

Thank you everyone for your help. Not sure if my system is a 16 or 32 bit. Will that make a difference loading 2012. I'm just trying to get ready if my system crashes and I have to purchase a new machine.

If you are running Windows 7, it by default is a 64 bit system and will run FTM 2011 just fine. Did so, done that sort of thing. Currently running FTM 2011 on Windows 8 just fine too.

I'm currently running XP. Will this work on this system?

Yes it will run OK.

Being Windows XP then it is 32 bit. When you buy Windows 7, it will most likely be a 64 bit machine and OS.
There may be issues with some older programs and hardware, but just check things out before buying a new machine and OS.

It should not be a problem. The product specifications at the FTM website says it will run on XP. See http://www.ancestry.com/cs/apps/P-4942 for other details.
