I am researching Granton. In 1999 my cousin and I had access to the Sacred Heart Church, Paris, ON, records and found the marriage of Michael Granton, on November 21, 1860, to Anne Magher, d/o Thomas Magher and Judy Bergin (we may have had trouble with deciphering the writing because there is ? beside her parents' names). We found no record of any children for them at Sacred Heart Church. We found the marriage on November 25, 1869, of Anne Granton, widow, native of Ireland,d/o Thomas Maher & Julia Berrigan (again a ?) who married John McDonald, from Scotland. This marriage was transcribed for the Ontario Vital Statistics Project (at rootsweb.com)as: 4/58 John McDONALD, 36, widower, laborer, Scotland, Paris, s/o Donald & Sarah, married Ann GRANTON, 30, widow, Ireland, Paris, d/o Thomas & Julia MAHAR, witn: John McKINNON & Mary Jane HOVEY, both of Paris, 25 Nov 1869 at Paris (Rom Cath). I know nothing further about them but she seems to be a sister of your Patrick.

Anne Maher Granton, widow, d/o Thomas & Julia (Bergin) Maher marries John McDonald widower s/o Donald & Sarah McDonald Date 1: 21 November 1860 or Date 2: 25 November 1869 Location: Paris, Brant County, Ontario
I was not aware of this, but will check out Humboldt, California, Huron County, and Perth County,Ontario, Vancouver, and Victoria B.C, Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington. These are all migration routes. I know that Bridget Mulcahy Maher is listed as sister of William Mulcahy, d. 1911 in Alliance, Humboldt County, California.
Will watch for Granton. Thanks very much.

Re: Patrick and Bridget Maher
Hi,
I am really interested that you mention that you had access to the Sacred Heart Church , Paris, On record . I am trying to find out who were the sponsors [godparents ]at the births of my gggrandfather's brother ,Alexander McDonald's childrens births. Alexander and his wife Jane [ I think it was also McDonald }came to Canada in 1853 from inverness, Scotland. They had at least 5 children in Paris , Hugh around 1855, Ann around 1857, John 1860 , Alexander 1863 and Christine 1854. They then shifted to Jackson , Michigan where Alexander worked as railroad contractor
Do you know how I could access the records?
Kind regards, Julia

It was 1999 when I saw the records. The rules have since been tightened. The last I heard, which was several years ago, there is no access. Perhaps someone else will be able to provide more current information.

Thank you so much. It's a pity if there is no access I don't mind even paying a fee
