Change default browser for external links in FTM 2012?

Is there any way to change the default browser in FTM 2012? Every time I click an external link (web record) from within a search I've done in the program, Internet Explorer opens it (example - find a grave result). Same thing if I try to open a photo from another person's tree.

I do this all of the time since FTM uses a brain dead version of IE.

It is my understanding that the default OS system browser is the one brought up when in the search results page, you click "Open New Windows" in the "Browser Options" in the upper right of the search results box. I know that my OS default browser is Firefox, and when I click the "Open New Windows" in "Browser Options" it opens in Firefox. Note: "Open New Windows" in "Browser Options" is not the same as "Open New Windows" when you right click of one of the items found in the search.

As far as changing the default browser in FTM I don't believe it is possible because FTM is written into an older version of IE. This is why there are no tabs in the browser in FTM

That is a mystery for me as well. The most common use I have for an external link from FTM to the Web is the "View Source Online" link at the Source Citation Screen. It always opens up in MY default browser - ie Chrome.

But, find-a-grave links from within an FTM search result and opening stories etc from AMT trees open in Explorer.

Perhaps its some kind of a legal thing with Microsoft, or the browser choice was imbedded in the actual link itself or since the link is coming from the Explorer version imbedded inside FTM it defaults to Explorer. My wish is that they would consistently allow MY default browser to respond to ALL links.

If you open a link from within the FTM browser it opens in the FTM and will be in the brain dead IE.

If you open a new browser by right clicking on an item in the FTM window ie a tree you are reviewing, it will open in the most current version of IE on your computer.

You can only get the better browser by opening the new window from the Browser Options at the icon in the upper left of the search results window.

I used to be able to right click on the search record I wanted then choose "open in new window". This always brought up IE. Suddenly I can't get any browser up at all when I do this...Did the 'new' update delete this function?

Good points, silverfox. I wish there were a way we could change this within FTM. I just want it all to open in Chrome!

Keith,
I don't see the Browser Options icon within FTM?

Is it silly to think FTM could re script this?

In the Web Search Tab or from the results that comes up when you click a leaf. (Same position in the program)

To get the webpage to open in the browser that is the default in the OS. Click the icon "Browser Options" and select "Open in New Window" See attachment

So if you have made Firefox the default browser for your system, when you click the "Open in new window" in the drop down menu you get when you click "Browser Options" on the search page, the page will be opened in a new Firefox window.

Yay! It works. It's a bit of a hassle to have to repeat it (apparently) each time you start a new session, but at least it works. Now I don't have to try getting a new version of IE to work, which my computer with Vista doesn't seem to want to do.
