Kerstein,Plesin Families Weissenfels

Surnames: Kerstein, Plesin
I am searching for any information on these families from the Weissenfels, Ratece, Villach areas. My grandmother was Katharina Kerstein (father Josef) born 1885 in Ratece (or possibly Weissenfels) There were several Plesin brothers who were possibly cousins.

ask at diocesan-archive Ljubljana: http://www.culturalprofiles.net/slovenia/Units/4914.html

which connection to the "Villach-area"? did they move from the Kanal-valley to Carinthia? i know that many did. so if you have a placename you can also ask at archive Klagenfurt for this. the civil-records started in Aistria then around 1938.

Thanks Mohnbauer for all your help. My major problem is that I don't have surnames for some of these people. If I can find out my grandmother's(Katharina Kerstein) maiden name that might be a great help. The Plesin brothers that came to the US had no children and my immediate relatives have no information. I did send an e-mail to the diocese of Trieste, who I was told had records for parishes in my area of interest, but have not had any response yet. Most of my information has come from postmarks on postcards sent to my grandmother, from Villach, Weissenfels/Fusine ValRomano, and a passport from Ratschach (Ratece).
I may be planning a trip to these areas next year and would like to have some idea what genealogical information I'm looking for while I'm there aside from enjoying the beautiful scenery!

i don´t think, that diocesan-archive Trieste is right for Fusine, this must be Udine as is more close to the Kanal-valley: http://www.webdiocesi.chiesacattolica.it/cci_new/s2magazine/...

Fusine: http://maps.google.at/maps?hl=de&q=Fusine+in+Valromana,+...
Udine: http://maps.google.at/maps?hl=de&cp=4&gs_id=1n&x...

also don´t forget to ask at the stated diocesan-archive in Klagenfurt in Carinthia/Kärnten, Austria if they have the old files for the Kanal-valley, which belonged before 1919 to Austria-Hungary.
