I know this isn't any help to your query, but my grandparents lived in Grayson for a time in the early 1920's. Their names were Philip and Elizabeth Harvey.
What interested me was the last name Ottenbreit in your query. By any chance do you have a Gerald Ottenbreit that was born around 1920ish that married Ida Chambers? Ida was my mom's sister.
Have you had any luck finding any kind of directories for Grayson during the 1920's?
Good luck in your search. Hope to hear from you if there is an Ottenbreit connection.......Shelley

Shelley, there were some Ottenbreit families that I ahve documents on from Grayson. I have a document entitled, "St. Mary's Parish, Book of memories" dated 1982, and in it are various Ottenbreits. One of the links between my family (mother's side) is that my mom's aunt, Sophie Rieger, married George M. Gelowitz. One of their sons, Johnny married Annie Ottenbreit.

Also, my great aunt (mother's side) Mary Zaleski married Anton Ottenbreit. I'm still working on their family.

I have lots of gaps. With mom dead, it is tough, but my various cousins out west are starting to work out that end of it. I used to chuckle each time I was in Grayson as it seemed the entire town was related to us.

I have from the earleir referenced document, the following Ottenbreits (appreciate that there are lots of descendents mentioned in this document (either way, i.e., parents and children):

Adam & Violet (Stradeski) Ottenbreit
Aloysuis Ottenbreit
Bev & Lorraine (Dycer) Ottenbreit
Colin & Denise (Ottenbreit) Ottenbreit
Alois & Victoria (Mayer) Ottenbreit
Allan & Maine (Ottenbreit) Ottenbreit
Denis & Celine (Ottenbreit) Ottenbreit
Edward & Mildred (Desrosiers) Ottenbreit
George & Mary Ottenbreit
Mike & Rose (Douhanuik) Ottenbreit
Roderick & Irene (Exner) Ottenbreit
William & Anne (Magerl) Ottenbreit

It is a bit of fun sorting the horde out, but eventually I will. My mom knew the entire pciture but did not get it all down on paper. My dad, born in 1920, knows some of it, and I will get the time to sort it out, as well as go through the various pictures.

Keep in touch.

Garry....Thank you for your reply. I am currently waiting for some info to come in on my Ottenbreit connection. The ones I remember were from Winnipeg, but I have no idea where they originated.
I will keep you posted when I receive the info.

Please let me know about Winnipeg. That was where my mom moved to, met my dad and were married there -- I was born there. And yep, I remember there were Ottenbreits there as well, although mostly Ruhr's who were also relatives.

Cheers.

Hi Garry:
I too was born in Winnipeg. I have lived in BC since 1967, and sometimes trying to round up addresses or phone #'s of cousins that I haven't seen in 30 yrs can be an ordeal in itself.
When I get my info on the Ottenbreits, I would prefer to email you with it. The only additional info I have gotten so far is that my Gerald probably had a sister named Florence. Not much to go on.
I will keep in touch though. Are you currently living in Winnipeg?
Regards,
Shelley

I noticed your posting, My gggrandmother was a Ruhr. She married Wenzel Dietrich in Austria the settled in the area about 1904. Her name was Anna (1879-1962). I am looking for Seida's from the area, they head to Oregon about 1920. There oldest daughter married on Ottenbreit. But I have many unaswered questions on that side. I don't know if this will help but let me know.

Tammy, give me a direct email and we can probably pick it up from there. I do have a fair bit documented on the Sask. side of the relatives, many Ruhrs, etc. They originated out of the Grayson Saks. site, and before that they came from Austria, Germany, Prussia and so on.

Cheers.

Hello,

I just started looking into my family history and saw this thread at the ancenstry.com site. There are certainly a lot of Ottenbreit in Grayson that's for sure. I grew up a short distance from there and many of my cousins, aunts, uncles live there as did my grandparents. Anyway, Anton Ottenbreit & Gertrude Zimmer (from Moladi, Bukowina, Austria) it seems were my great grandparents. I have a fairly detailed set of papers that pick up at the point when then immigrated to Canada on April 28, 1900.

Anway, not sure if anyone is still interested, but I thought you may want to share some information.

Regards,

Jeff
