Duplicate Sources AMT>FTM

Duplicate Sources AMT>FTM

Just wondering if anyone can duplicate this issue. When using the beta/new tool for attaching records in the AMT and then syncing to FTM, a new source is being created for many of the databases.

For instance, The SSDI already exists as a source in my sources workspace. However, if I add the SSDI to say 3 people in the AMT, and sync my file, a new SSDI source is being created for each citation/person it is attached to. I now have one SSDI source, with about 500 citations "in" it linked to as many people, and 30 more, each with one citation linked to one person.

This was not occurring with the old tool and began with the beta version of the new tool - and it is not limited to the SSDI. I have "tested" adding records with both the old and beta tools, and I am not seeing the duplication of sources for records attached with the old tool.

Thanks! I'm pretty sure we're not alone and hope that others will take a look and see if they're affected, or try to duplicate the issue, then send a bug report. I've sent one through the beta feedback button and another to support directly...

I've had the same problem and eventually stopped syncing. I had more dupe sources than original sources. The dupes appear to be caused by editing one or more fields with the Source Editor and then syncing with ATM. The same can happen to citations.

I have found a partial fix to the dupe source problem that seems to work: use FTM to merge all existing dupe Sources into a single Source(1) then download another citation for that Source which will create another dupe Source(2). However, Source(2) is structured as FTM/ATM expects so now merge Source(1) into Source(2) and all seems to be normal, again. I have done this with a couple of census sources and future downloads have linked correctly and not caused further dupes. I have also noticed a similar issue with unmodified ATM sources: Many with similar titles have commas and some do not.

The issue I am having is a new issue and related to the new/beta tool for attaching records in the AMT. It is not occurring when I use the old tool.

The events you describe sound similar to something I experienced previously, but merging duplicates so the remaining/combined source was one created w/ a record attached in the AMT as opposed to being created by record merged in FTM resolved the problem.

Since the thread, with a staff member, a couple of weeks ago, indicating that our concerns about the new tool were being heard, and the "February 2013" absolute deadline might be pushed out, I quit using the new tool.

I tried it briefly, didn't like it, when it first came out. When the banner appeared saying it would be permanent in February 2013, I tried it again, briefly, and still didn't like it.

Until the original tool disappears, I live in hope that I will never again have to use the new tool.
