Horatio Crane was the child of Michael Crane and his second wife Maria Anna Cronwoven Antes. NOT, as I wrote, the child of Michael and his first wife, Ann.

1850 Census for Appanoose Township, Hancock County, IL shows Horatio Crane, age 16, born in PA, living in household of Enoch E. West who had married Maria Crane, his stepmother. His father, Michael Crane, son of George Crane and Katherine Quiggle of Lycoming County PA, had died in 1847 and his mother, Ann, before 1830.

This Crane line in PA appears to have originated in Ireland and immigrated in the 18c. No connection has been found to earlier CT and NJ Cranes. A sister, Mary Ann Crane married Leonard Pfouts.
