I am researching a Murdoch Ross who came from PEI around 1820 and settled in Bras d Or Lake and later moved to Margaree, Inverness County. I believe some of his children are Donald, Hugh, Malcolm, John, James, and William.

The Murdoch Ross to whom you referred was my ancestor. Your message is 4 years old -- hope this reaches you anyhow.

Murdoch (Pioneer) Ross came to Cape Breton in 1828 with his wife Isabella MacDonald and 7 children. The 8th came the following year with Murdoch's brother Angus.

Their children: Hugh, Malcolm, Donald, Christina, Murdoch K, John, Catherine, James

They settled in Margaree. Two children emigrated to the US, the rest remained in Canada, I believe.

Murdoch was my ggggrandfather through Murdoch K. I have a great deal of info about this line, plus I know some of the descendants. If you're related, please write and let's share.

Hi,

I don't recall getting your message about Donald Ross, son of Murdoch/Isabella.

I just found your message now on RootsWeb.

I am hoping that you may have some information on my Ross line. Donald Ross & Catherine "Ket" (Ships List is where I get the backup on names) coming from Isle of Skye Scotland to Margaree and eventually around 1820 to Margaree Cape Breton - settling in the Big Intervale. They had two daughters at the time named "Ket" and Margaret"Peggy"Ross.

Margaret "Peggy" Ross married my ggggrandfather Samuel Burton. I am having a hard time finding anything more except that they settled in the Big Intervale and Margaret when married lived in Margaree Valley with Samuel Burton son of William Burton and Nancy Cranton.

Would appreciate any new leads or info.

I don't have much, but I show Nancy Cranton as being born around 1778 and from Newfoundland with her parents as Robert Cranton and Ann Stone. No other dates or info. Hope that helps. Any more info on your Ross'?

Rosschaser:

Thank you for replying. I have very little on my "Donald & Catherine Ross" and less on Margaret "Ross" Burton. I have quite a large bit of info on the Burton's but my Ross line seems quite elusive at this time.

I will have to review some of my records and will get back
to you on what I may have. Are you part of this line of the Ross family from Margaree. If you are interested in Margaret's children (Samuel and her had a large family)
I would be more than welcome to send you what I have.

The Burtons and Ross' Family have many links from Margaree.

I don't mean to be coy, but the only way I can answer that question right now is, "I don't know". That is why I was glad to see your posting. I'm hoping that after I see your Ross info, no matter how slight, it might help me to find out. I have quite a bit of info on Samuel and Margaret's descendants. Thanks for your help. Cheers, Donald, Halifax

Have you looked up the Ross families in the book entitled: History of Northeast Margaree" by John F. Hart.?? It lists numerous Ross families and their descendents. I am related through marriages into the Ethridge family- also from the Margaree area.
