Looking for information that would verify the father of this Edward DeLozier, the DeLozier Family History book, states that one of his daughters discovered he was "Jessie DeLozier". Edward passed away in Macon County North Carolina in 1870. Thanks.

I have the information you want. I have a document which the government takes to be true, actually, I have many of them. Sarah A Delozier Mashburn, made a claim in the Indian Court of Claims in 1906 and I have a copy of all of the claims of the family. I spent several weeks and $1,000.00 getting these copies. I got them from the SLC library several years ago. I have been seriously ill and have just taken up the guantlet again of trying to find my "family". Sarah states (under penalth of perjury by the way) that her parents were Edward Delozier and her mother was Elizabeth Delozier, formerly Elizabeth Poindexter. Her father was born in Blount Co TN, and her mother Surry NC (not VA), In 1851 her parents resided in Cherokee, NC. Her father's date of death is listed as 1870 Nov 23 , Her mothers is not legible on this document but I have it on other's just not at my fingertips. They refused to go out west to Oklahoma in the removal of 1835. Her siblings are listed as Lafayette Delozier, Rebecca, Elizabeth (who married Jno Constant) Jesse R. DeLozier, Mary Magdeline (who married John Ragle) and Nancy L (who married a Crisp) I have their dates of birth and death as applicable on the form. Grandparents of Sarah, are listed as Jesse DeLosier and Alsey Delozier. Alsey was the dau of Alyce Spears who was originally Alyce Fields, sister of Richard Fields, the Cherokee indian chief, who took a comanchee of indians down to the Alamo and fought with the Mexicans against the Texans, in retaliation for the removal. In return the Indians were given most of Texas by then Mexico. Of course, again, the government eventually got that property from them too. Maternal grandparents of Sarah were Pledge Poindexter and Elizabeth Poindexter. In 1851 Elizabeth was living on parched Corn Indian Reservation. Just last week in SLC LIBRARY (I was there most of this summer as we maintain an apartment in Utah - we have a house in CA) Edward Delozier actually owned the land 640 acres which comprised parch corn reservation. I have copies of the documents respecting purchase, sale, and apparently Elizabeth had some properly as well, along Alarka Creek. She was listed as Edward's mother in law in the Cherokee Census as 72 and blind, but the records show, that she gave some property to the Episcopal Church, for a church and school along alarka creek. Also interesting, Elizabeth Delozier, wife of Edward, her grandmother was half-sister to Junaluska (Indian Chief - famos or infamous) and John Ayers (still trying to track info down on him). Sarah's husband was Andrew Mashburn. Anyone can feel free to contact me for anything respecting the above.

I apologize for the wording of my message, it is not the father of Edward DeLozier I need, I know his father was Jessie DeLozier, I really need to know which Jessie this is, the son of Edward DeLozier born in Maryland in 1723 or some other DeLozier ancestor. If it is, did he have a wife before Alsey and possibly father children prior to Edward born in 1803
Thanks for your reply is was very interesting.

I have that information too. I will have to dig it out. Send me your address. Who is your relative. I will sent you the information that I have, if I have a copy of the Indian Claim I will send that also. I copied all of the ones that I knew I was "related" to. But I will be going back to SLC next month, I am not sure of the date yet, I am going with Jesse Riding DeLozier's great granddaugher, my "cousin" we found each other on these boards, and turns out she lives only 90 miles from me in CA. I have a second residence in Utah in the SLC area. It gets too much for me to type all of this stuff all of the time. I have had 8 back surgeries, as well as other surgeries.

I am in possession of an affidavit by James Taylor that states that states: "I was well aquainted with Edward DeLozier from the time he was five years old until death. His mother was half Cherokee Indian by blood by the name of Alcia Fields before she married Delozier. She died when Edward was about 3 years old. Edward was the only child she raised. After her death Andy Taylor taken him and raised him. Said Andy Taylor's wife was first cousin to Alcia Fields and was also half Cherokee by blood and on account of the kinship between Alcia Field and Andy Taylor's wife they taken him and raised him and he said Edward Delozier married Elizabeth Poindexter who was the daughter of Pledge Poindexter, who claimed to be quarter Cherokee by blood. I was well acquainted with him and he looked like a quarter Indian. The facts stated of my own knowledge are true, and the facts stated from information I believe to be true. Edward also had a son named Jessie R. DeLozier who died October 22, 1886. Edward died 1870. Since Edward was the only issue of Jesse DeLozier and Alsey Fields and she only lived until he was 3, chances are pretty good he had another wife and probably other children, particularly in light of the fact that Edward was raised by his mother's cousin after his mother died.

Ok, I think I finally found the information you wanted. I have boxes of this stuff. Unfortunately, due to my illnesses, it has been rumaged through and now is no longer organized. I show that Jesse DeLozier who was married to Alsey Fields had just the one child Edward "Ned" DeLozier. He had one prior marriage to Diane Thompson and had at least two children. Jassy & George b 1784. Jesse's parents were Edward DeLozier b. abt 1713 in MD and Ann Elder. Is this the information that you were seeking?

The info you have about Jassy and George b 1784 is somewhat incorrect. Jassy was born in 1789 and was not the son of Edward DeLozier b 1712 in Md. I have deeds with Jesse's name on in in 1784 and 1789 where he was buying and selling land, if Jesse and Jassy were the same person this could not be so. George could possibly be Jesse's son but it has never been proven. Jassy's parents have never been proven either. There is also an unknown variable that must be considered, we are talking about old American here and people were traveling, exploring, giving, taking, getting into trouble and so forth. It was not uncommon for people to take other peoples name to keep from being discovered. Good Luck in your search. One more thing, based on the substantial family history of Jassy Delozier in the "DeLozier Family History by Robert C. DeLozier, I find it highly unlikely that Jassy DeLozier and the Jesse DeLozier that married Alsey Fields are the same person. I have some theories regarding who this Jesse is which I will discuss by email.

Surnames: DeLozier, Hunt, Moffit, Gentry, Mizell, Ashlock, Few
I know that James and Edward are very popular names, and there are certainly lots of DeLoziers, but I am looking for the Choctaw and Cherokee information for the ancestors of James Edward DeLozier, who married Mary Elizabeth Hunt. One of their children was Finis Marion DeLozier, who was married to Henry Ella Moffit, and after Ella's death, he married Lilly Mizell (maiden name Gentry.)
