Need info/lineage of Mollie Teal, the famous madam of Huntsville, Alabama. Have found reference to her mother as Mary Smith, but nothing on the father or other ancestors. She either donated or sold her brothel to the city and it is now Huntsville Hospital. Any info on her AND her mother would be appreciated...Also if anyone knows any good books or references to her in any books, that would also be appreciated. Thanks

Email Briana5555@aol.com as I rarely check the boards.

Mollie b/TN 1852 d/Huntsville, AL 1899; her mother Mary Smith b/ca 1829 TN, died ca 1872 in Huntsville. Both are buried in Maple Hill Cemetery. Mollie willed her home to the city for use as a hospital. Ca 1903 a John W Smith came forward disputing the will, claiming he was next of kin. Court ruled in favor of the city. He then sued claiming no mention was made of her money in the bank, and court found in his favor. Relationship to Mollie unknown. Mollie and her mom came to AL ca 1870, possibly after the death of Mollie's father/Mary's husband. Maybe he died in the Civil War and his widow received land in Huntsville? No photo is said to exist of Mollie. I would love to see/have a photo if one does exist. Mollie was said to have been once arrested for prostitution in Memphis, TN, so it is presumed they lived there before moving to AL ca 1870. Any info would be appreciated.
