Clifton WayneWOOLMAN was born July 21, 1934, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Alfred and Sarah Woolman. He passed away peacefully on April 5, 2010, and is survived by his wife, Carole, to whom he was married for almost 20 years.
Clifton was raised in the logging camps of the Sumpter Valley near Baker City, Oregon. He wrote a book about his life there titled “Lumberjacks, Rails & Trains – Logging in Sumpter Valley.” After graduating from high school he moved with his parents to Washington State, where he joined the National Guard. He attended the Electronic School in Ft. Bliss, Texas, graduating first in his class, and acquiring the necessary training to maintain and operate Radar Guided Missile Systems. He later earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering at CSU. He had a long and distinguished career in the Aerospace industry, including work at NASA in the Gemini and Apollo Lunar Space programs, and later helping to install the communications systems in
Cliff enjoyed a wide array of activities with family and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman, an expert genealogist, and was actively engaged in the historical society in the community of Longmont. He and his wife portrayed Charles and Katherine Hover at Hoverhome during tours there. They also enjoyed participating in the Scottish Festival in Estes Park every year.
His parents, Alfred and Sarah Woolman, and his second wife Dorothy preceded Cliff in death.
He is survived by his four daughters: Sandra Johnson (Lonnie) of Seattle, WA; Terry Register (Lako) of Harrison, AR; Merry Lassa (Hal) of Houston, TX; Barbara Ryan (Keith) of London, England; and their mother Clarron Koon;
his two sisters Lynda Demarteau and Shirley Coolidge of Tacoma, WA; is stepchildren: Michael Woodward and his wife Sharon of Broomfield; Kimberly Mason (Shane) of St. Libory, NE; Steven Woodward (Debbie) of Mesa, AR; Teresa Gray (Dan) of Grand Island, NE; and Tammy Schwieger (Clayton) of Grand Island, NE; Deborah Skelton (Brett) of Louisville, CO; Cheryl Lawson (Brad) of Bremerton, WA; and Sean O’Dell of Littleton, CO; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
All his family and many friends will miss his dearly.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 9 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Howe Mortuary. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. in the Howe Mortuary Chapel. Services will conclude at the Chapel.
