Help guide me on how to find one of my families from Sweden who went to Norway

Surnames: Holmberg Askilsdotter
Hi!

I have a family that left from Sweden to Norway.

1. Per Erik Holmberg b. 17 Sept 1844 in Norberg, Västmanland, Sweden.
2. wife August Haglund b. 4 July 1847 in Västervåla, Västmanland, Sweden.
3. son Carl Axel born 11 Feb 1870 in Karbenning, Västmanland, Sweden.
4. daughter Beda Vilhelmina b. 25 May 1874 in Karbenning, Västmanland, Sweden.

There is an Embias record of emigration that shows they went to Norway in 1877

They aren't in the Swedish Census 1880.

They reappear back in the Swedish Census 1890 - Per Erik Holmberg born 1844 Norberg, but now married to Anna Malena Askilsdotter born 1857 in Norway.

Any help pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated!

I think the best chance of finding information on the family is to look for Anna Malena Askilsdatter in the 1865 census. If you find her, then check the church records of that parish for her marriage to Per Erik Holmberg.

A possibility is the 8 year old Anna M. Askeldsdatter listed in the 1865 census for Sand parish in Rogaland.

The birth record shows that her name actually is "Anna Malena Askjelsdatter".

#31
Born 22 Jun 1858

She was boprn at Eidssjøn, which appears to be part of the farm "Eide" in Sand parish. Her parents names are Askjeld Askjeldsen and Elisabeth Anfinsdatter.

Hi

They live in Stavanger in the 1910 census:

and I guess this is them in the 1900 census in Lillesand:

The confirmation record for Anne Malene (born 22 Jun 1858)confirms the place of birth as the farm "Eide".

The marriage record posted by Vivi shows a birth date of 1856, the place of birth as the farm "Alsbjerget" in Sand. and the father's name as "Askild Larsen". The 1900 and 19120 census records also show an earlier date of birth than 1858.

I will look through the birth records for Sand to see if there is indeed another Anne Malena Askjeldsdatter.

The information posted by Vivi is correct. The first Anne Malene I found is not the correct one.

Here is the church confirmation record for the correct Anne:

#10
Confirmed 2 Oct 1870
Anne Malene Asgjeldsdatter Ersdal
Born 3 May 1856 at Alsbjkerget under Ersdal
Father: Asgjeld Larsen Øie
Mother: Martha Eriksdatter

Kildeinformasjon: Rogaland fylke, Sand i Sand, Ministerialbok nr. A 3 (1854-1879), Konfirmerte 1871, side 138.

Here is her birth record:

#19
Born 3 May 1856

Kildeinformasjon: Rogaland fylke, Sand i Sand, Ministerialbok nr. A 3 (1854-1879), Fødte og døpte 1856, side 13.
Permanent sidelenke: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=6313&i...

Strangely, the mothers name has been changed from Martha Eriksdatter to "Nilsdatter". This is odd because the confirmation recvord still says "Eriksdatter".

Thanks everyone for their help on all this information. it would appear then that his first wife, August Haglund, probably died in Norway.

What is the best way for me to find out when and where?

Thanks in advance again

There is no nationwide index of deaths. Deaths/burials were recorded in the church books of the various parishes and clerical districts.

So, what parish? It is obvious from the information already given that the family moved about a great deal.

Thanks thoraway - I'll try and do some more research to narrow it down.
