Hi, I'm Shannon Valois and most of my famly I think was from Oklahoma and went west to MA where most are now. I believe we are descendents of the Jacques lineage. There is Sioux Indian also on my Valois side and I am trying to research and find out from where and what tribe. I also have Columbian on the Valois side. Any info would be great on how to research the native american side of my Valois family.

Hi Shannon,

I know that I have some Valois cousins in Oklahoma, we may even be related! I can tell you that the Valois family in Canada also has Native American blood (in my case the most recent of which being my great-great-grandmother), but it is Iroquois, not Sioux, and more specifically Huron.

My uncle had a list at one point with the direct Valois lineage (of our branch, anyway) going all the way back to when they first came to Canada in the 1600s. I keep meaning to contact him to get this anyway, if you think it might be relevant to your search I can certainly pass the information on.

Hi Deb

I would appreciate any info that you have :) There was a Jack Valois, he recently passed, and he gave me a long lineage. He is also published somewhere, offhand I can't remember where... I will have to find out. Most of the Valois family is in Massachusetts, my grand fathers' side coming from Oklahoma. From what Jack told me, most of my family came from canada too. But I was also told of the French/Creole side of the Valois family that is also part of me....and there is Columbian too. I think there is alot of blood mixed in our lineage and I love that :) Where are you located now? I live in VA.

I am located in Saskatchewan, Canada, though I've no close relations here (that I know of). The majority of my family still resides in Quebec, though some reside in Alberta and Oklahoma.

From my lineage (and I'll be able to tell you more once I get the tree from my uncle) all involved families are pretty well exclusively of French descent, with the exception of the Iroquois. To my knowledge (and the main reason that I'm on ancestry.com) my mother's side of the family is entirely Irish, making me pretty well half and half, with some Native American thrown in for good measure. But I'm dying to find out more, so we shall see!

My husband's great-grandfather was Louis Valois, Jr. (French ancestry) who is supposed to have come from Canada to Louisiana. He lived in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, until his death. Once you have received the information from your uncle, would you please let me know if there is any possible connection to your family.
