I am seeking information on my ancestors, Ambrose Nelson and Sarah Watterfall. (It was with interest that I read the previously-posted message, and learned that Ambrose was granted citizenship ca 1700!)
Ambrose, b. Maryland 1712, and Sarah, b. Maryland ca. 1720, married 11 July 1740. Their four children were born in Maryland as well: Basil (ca 1744), Barsheba(?) (ca.1746), James (ca 1748) and William (ca 1750). All children were born in Anne Arundel Co. If you can fill in any gaps--especially who Ambrose's parents were, why he needed citizenship if he was born in MD (I may very well be in error)--and anything about Sarah's family--I would deeply appreciate it. I know a bit about what happened to the family later on, and if anyone is interested, please contact me.

Hi Gina & Amanda,
I also am a descendant from Ambrose Nelson through William Ricketts of Lynnville, Warrick Co., IN. I have been working on the Ricketts, Wade, Osborn/Osborne lines since 1978. Contact me.

There were at least three generations in early Maryland named Ambrose NELSON. Gust SKORDAS' Early Settlers of MD: Ambrose NELSON of Anne Arundel Co. was transported for service by 1677 [land records, 15:439].

Harry Wright NEWMAN's To MD from Overseas: Petition for naturalization of Ambrose NELSON was read in the lower house 1712 [MD Archives, 27:150].

Abstracts of Land Records of Anne Arundel Co., MD: Philemon SMITH, with dower released by Ann SMITH, on 12 Aug. 1700, for 4000 lbs. tobacco, deeded to Ambross NEALSON, AA, planter, recorded 12 Nov. 1700, 200 a., "Smiths Forrest," on south side of Curtis Creek, by line formerly laid out for Morris BAKER.

Ambrose NELSON, Baltimore Co., planter, with dower released by Martha NELSON, 15 Aug 1717, recorded 9 Oct. 1717, deeded for twelve pounds sterling, to Timothy WHITE, AA, planter, original grant of 26 Mar. 1696, to Richard OWINGS for "Owings Range," adjoining Jabez PIERPOINT. By indenture of 5 Aug. 1690, OWINGS conveyed to Ambrose NELSON. This indenture is for 143 acres of "Owings Range" except for two acres at the bottom of a point on both sides of a branch sold to Jno. MARSH, intended for a mill by Wm. STEVENS, wit. by STEPHENS & Wm. GRIMES.

F. Edward WRIGHT's Anne Arundel Church Records...
All Hallows, Ambross NELLSON m. 5 Feb. 1707/8, Sarah DU__, & had son Ambrose, bpt. 8 Nov. 1719.
St. Margaret's, Westminster Parish, Ambross NELSON m. 11 July 1745, Sarah WATTERFALL.

Robt. BARNES' Baltimore Co. Families, 1659 - 1759: Ambrose NELSON died by 12 Mar. 1722; will of 15 Aug. 1717, pr. 12 Mar. 1728. He left 50 acres of "Smith's Range" to grandson Ambrose JOHNSON & named grdau. Ruth JOHNSON, wf. Martha, & ch.

Martha, m. 4 Mar. 1716/7, St. Anne's, AA, Wm. PINKSTON
Sarah, m. _ FRIZZELL/FRISSEL
Ann, m. 17 Feb. 1708, St. Anne's, AA Co., Samuel JOHNSON.
[Will called her Sarah JOHNSON, but she had to be Ann, since another Sarah was named.]

John NELSON had

Hannah, b. 10 Aug. 1720, m. 1 Dec. 1737, Geo. HOLLANDSWORTH.
John, b. 23 Dec. 1723, d. by 28 May 1752 (adm. bond)

Aquila, m. 20 Jan. 1757, Sarah CHANCEY, & had son John, b. 19 Nov. 1757
Ann, perhaps m. 2 Oct. 1753, Adam BURCHFIELD.

MD Calendar of Wills: Ambrose NELSON, Baltimore Co., 15 Aug. 1717, 12 Mar. 1728. To wf. Martha, exx. & res. legatee, 200 acres of dwell. pl. "Smith's Range" during life, except 50 acres to grandson Ambros JOHNSON. If he dsp, to grdau. Ruth JOHNSON. To dau. Sarah {sic} JOHNSON. At death of wf., to 5 ch. Ambrose, Richard, John, Martha PINKSTON, & Sarah FRISSEL. Wit. Timothy WHITE, Phillip TENNERLY, Richard YOUNG, Jr. [Vide Lib. 20, p. 118, anno 1730].

So, there must have been the immigrant
Ambrose NELSON, who probably m. ca. 1685, Martha, & had
Ambrose, who m. 1707/8, Sarah D., & had
Ambrose, who m. 1745, Sarah W.

Sorry, the only mention of WATTERFALL in Robt. BARNES' MD Marriages and in F. Edwd. WRIGHT's Anne Arundel Church Records is the marriage of Sarah WATTERFALL, 11 July 1745, St. Margaret's, Ambross NELSON.

MD Calendar of Wills: Thomas COCKEY, AA, 10 Dec. 1733, pr. 22 Oct. 1737...Wit. Richard WATERFALL.

Samuel SOWERS, Talbot Co., 20 Aug. 1739, 1 Nov. 1739. All to Rebekah BIRD...Wit. Richard WATERFALL.

That's all I see.
